Art Gallery Assistant – Casual Position
Six (6) days per fortnight, $46,300 Gross PA plus 11 % Superannuation
FireWorks Gallery has an opening for a mature, self-motivated, enthusiastic and highly organised person who will provide support and assistance with artwork sales through a range of tasks associated with the daily operations of the retail gallery environment. The successful applicant will report directly to the Director and will work within a small team.
THE ROLE/ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include
- Client service through to sales, logistics follow-up and upkeep of gallery presentation
- Registration of artworks, install and de-install of exhibitions, stocktakes, dispatch of artworks
- General administration tasks, including telephone, online and in-person inquiries
- Writing & proofing media releases and short media listings (online and offline)
- Writing & proofing social media posts and scheduling
- Writing & proofing content and editing images for web
- Maintaining client, media and inventory databases (using File Maker Pro)
- Regular web updates
- Facilitating gallery events including exhibition openings
- PA duties to Director
- Filing and archiving of gallery materials and information
- Regular cleaning and upkeep of various gallery areas
THE PERSON/ KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Tertiary or similar qualifications in arts administration, marketing, communication or similar OR more than 5 years’ experience in a professional office/Art Gallery/similar retail environment
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written skills
- High level office administration skills including Microsoft Office Suite, MailChimp and (preferably) File Maker Pro database
- Experience with Drupal (CMS for web) and Adobe Creative Suites, in particular Photoshop and Premier Pro
- Experience with filming short videos using camera and microphone, and with stills photography
- Sales experience focusing on coordination and follow-up is an advantage
- Ability to successfully manage competing priorities under pressure and to be able to work independently and in a small team
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Punctuality and a high level of personal presentation
- Keen interest in contemporary art
- Current RSA Certificate QLD (preferable)

Position starts Tuesday 19 March 2024 (from 950am – 605pm) on Week B roster.
Hours for the position: Six (6) days per fortnight with alternating weeks:
Week A: Tuesday (950am-605pm), Friday (950am-605pm), Saturday (950am-505pm).
Week B: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (950am-605pm)
Additional hours required as necessary (exhibition installation, openings, events, etc.)
Position is remunerated at casual rates under MA000004: General Retail Industry Award 2020
FireWorks Gallery closes each year for four (4) weeks from 6pm XMAS EVE (or the Saturday prior from 5pm where XMAS EVE falls on a Sunday or Monday) until the week of Australia Day. All staff take leave during this period.
