Gallery Assistant – Jan Murphy Gallery
Full-time - Tuesdays – Saturdays.
Jan Murphy Gallery, one of Australia’s leading commercial galleries, is offering a rare opportunity to work as Assistant to the Gallery Manager. Founded in 1995, the gallery represents established and emerging contemporary Australian Artists.
An integral part of the gallery team, the Gallery Assistant will report to the Director and Gallery Manager to support all gallery activities, working with artists, clients, visitors, staff and supplier businesses.
You will have a genuine passion for the arts and desire to build a career in the commercial art world. You will be enthusiastic, willing to learn from and contribute to the team, and have a positive commitment to ongoing learning. Activities you will be responsible for include:
- Providing exceptional customer service to gallery clients and visitors;
- Completing all gallery administrative tasks – data entry, database maintenance, mail, accepting payments and receipting, invoicing.
- Supporting the Gallery Director and Manager with exhibitions.
- Registration of artwork – control of incoming and outgoing stock;
- Updating, developing the gallery website and social media platform (writing and research);
- Reception - Greeting gallery visitors, actioning incoming phone calls and managing correspondence;
- Installation/ hanging/ moving of artworks;
You will be professionally presented and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills (both written and verbal communication), and possess the following:
- Bachelor of Arts – Art History/ Bachelor of Art History, or equivalent desirable;
- Strong knowledge of contemporary art;
- Relevant 2+ years of work experience;
- Experience in customer service;
- Ability to prioritise tasks, work to meet targets and deadlines, and manage own time effectively;
- Excellent telephone manner;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality in all gallery dealings;
- Advanced competency in:
- Macintosh Microsoft Office, Filemaker Pro (or other CRM) databases, Creative Suites, Website software, Adobe Suites, Social Media Platforms.
Your role will involve occasional client and artist events.
