UniSport Australia is the peak governing body of university sport in Australia
We strive to promote and foster the importance of university sport as an integral part of university life at 42 member universities, who collectively represent more than one million students nationwide. Our primary focus is providing expertise and leadership in university sport. We aim to deliver and integrate national policy that enhances and facilitates opportunities for competitive participation in sport for students at a regional, national and international level. Furthermore, we also focus on providing a broad range of supplementary activities, advocacy and services for our members.
About the role
The Assistant Accountant is one of three people within the Finance team. The Assistant Accountant works closely with GM Finance to effectively deliver on UniSport’s strategic objectives within the Finance area.
Key responsibilities
Financial Processing
- Processing of payroll and management of employee onboarding and records management
- Processing of customer sales orders, invoices and receipts
- Processing supplier purchase orders, invoices and payments
Reconciliation of Bank Accounts & Subsidiary Ledgers
- Monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and PayPal accounts
- Monthly reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers (AR & AP)
Reconciliation of Bank Accounts & Subsidiary Ledgers
- Monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and PayPal accounts
- Monthly reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers (AR & AP)
Australian Tax Office & Other Statutory Reporting Requirements
- Prepare monthly Super & BAS submission & payment
- Prepare annual FBT submission & payment
Compliance and Internal Controls
- Assist with development/review/update in relation to accounting requirements, financial & audit policies, procedures and processes
- Monthly review of staff credit cards and supportive documentation
- Monthly reconciliation of general ledger, subsidiary ledger and balance sheet accounts
Reporting and Analysis
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports for Management, Financial Committee & Board as required
- Assist with actual, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
Selection criteria
- Minimum of 3 years within a similar role
- Knowledge of MYOB Advanced and ProSpend
- Knowledge of Power BI (desirable)
- Demonstrated experience in using MS Office software, in particular advanced knowledge of Excel
- Education, training and/or relevant experience in finance accounting
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of accounting principles and concepts
- Strong analytical skills, results-orientated with the aptitude to learn quickly
