The Policy Development and Coordination team within the Aboriginal Engagement Directorate is responsible for leading key initiatives that give effect to the Aboriginal Empowerment Strategy and the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. These policy and system-reform projects are focussed on the way in which Aboriginal people and organisations are involved in decision-making, service design and service delivery, requiring a whole-of-government response. The team’s work involves close and constant collaboration with a range of WA Government agencies, Aboriginal organisations, local and Federal Governments, and the broader community services sector.

About the Roles

The Assistant Director Statewide Policy and Coordination is a rewarding and challenging position providing high level policy support, advice and undertakes complex research and analysis in relation to the development, coordination, implementation, and review of Government policies from a cross portfolio perspective.

The Assistant Director Closing the Gap Coordination is responsible for the high level coordination WA’s commitments under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. The role requires a strategic approach with an awareness of Federal State relations.

To be successful in these roles you will be a strategic thinker that can influence and drive complex high quality, evidence-based policy outcomes. You will draw on your extensive professional experience and use your exceptional written and verbal communication skills to establish understanding and achieve results. As a highly experienced practitioner you will also mentor and readily share your knowledge and experience leading high performing teams. 

Eligibility: 

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.
