The Opportunity:
As part of the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) Integrity Group, the Governance, Assurance and Risk Branch works to build trust and a culture of integrity, strengthening the NIAA’s position to deliver on its vision that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are heard, recognised and empowered. The Governance Assurance and Risk Branch provides a range of functions to support executive management and decision making, including governance and secretariat services, internal audit and grant assurance services, risk management and corporate planning and reporting.
The successful candidates will be results driven and work as part of a small team committed to a culture of integrity and transparency, building positive stakeholder relationships across the Agency, collaborating to solve complex issues, and analysing and reporting on assurance results for consideration by the Executive. Vacancies currently exist in the in the Governance and Grants Assurance teams. This process may also be used to establish a merit pool to fill future vacancies in the Governance, Assurance and Risk Branch.
As an EL1 Assistant Director, you will be expected to:
• support EL2 Senior Advisers in leading small teams of APS staff
• provide high quality advice and support on governance, assurance, risk and/or probity matters
• coach, guide and develop team members, including identifying staff learning needs, monitoring and providing feedback on performance and building co-operation within the team to work to common goals
• deliver regular reporting to the Executive on governance matters or assurance results
• provide secretariat support to the enterprise governance committees (including managing the Enterprise Governance Committees Forward Work Program, coordinating meeting agendas and papers, and quality assurance)
• promote governance best practice across the NIAA, including the development and implementation of a governance resources centre
• lead assurance reviews of Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS) processes and systems or Indigenous Employment Programs, and drive their continuous improvement
• lead the analysis of data and information to understand systemic trends and emerging issues in order to identify opportunities to streamline grant processes and improve compliance.

• a demonstrated ability to analyse, assess and resolve complex and sensitive issues that impact programs, projects or agreements.
Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded:
• Governance, Risk and/or Secretariat roles
• Program Assurance, Audit or Compliance roles
• Operation of Grant Policies, programs and systems
• Risk and/or Project Management

· The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
