About the role Assisting with the provision of quality, safe person and family centred care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Midwife (RM). Work may be overseen by an Enrolled Nurse (EN). The Assistant in Nursing (AIN) provides essential support in assisting Registered and Enrolled Nurses and other professionals in the provision of quality perioperative care. The AIN contributes to the successful function of the team by following instructions and guidance from the registered nurse, and maintains an environment which adheres to perioperative standards, policies and procedures & report observations of non-adherence to standards and any incidents to the Registered Nurse. The duties of this position include: “Set-ups” for theatre cases carefully following procedure and surgeon preference cards and cleans equipment and the environment as required by following standards and infection prevention guidelines. Sink nurse duties, transporting used instruments from the operating theatres (OT) to the central sterilising department (CSD) and distributing sterile instrument trays from CSD to designated location for storage within OT's. Cleaning duties, undertaking effective cleaning of the operating rooms and perioperative environment, helping to achieve a safe, visibly clean environment of an acceptable standard. Restocking of the operating theatres and sterile stores room as required, alerting the floor coordinator of missing stock.
