The Financial Services Section is part of Financial and Shared Services Branch within the CFO Division and is a high-volume centralised processing unit that services the greater Department by performing the functions of Accounts Payable, grant processing, accounts receivable and debt management. The section works closely with other areas in Finance and Shared Services to deliver quality service and support to the Department.
The opportunityReporting to the Manager – Financial Services, the Assistant Manager – Accounts Payable supervises a team providing excellent client service and delivering Accounts Payable functions to the department.

As the Assistant Manager – Accounts Payable, you will be required to undertake work that may be complex in nature, work under limited direction with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability.
As the Assistant Manager – Accounts Payable, you will:
- Lead and manage the Accounts Payable team ensuring deadlines and WoAG policy obligations are effectively met including processing payments on time, end of month and end of financial year activities.
- Coach and manage team members to develop their skills and oversee their workload including:
- providing clarity around roles, expectations and responsibilities. Engage in performance discussions, identify training and development opportunities
- using on the job opportunities to transfer knowledge and develop capability,
- providing continuous feedback,
- research and recommend training opportunities to improve and enhance the team skill set,
- review personal and team performance and seek feedback from line management and stakeholders to confirm satisfaction.
- Assist in identifying, developing, implementing and reviewing business processes that improve the overall operational efficiency of the team.
- Use your analytical, judgement and conceptual skills in the development and provision of reports and advice to meet reporting obligations.
- Contribute to and participate in Branch and team initiatives and programs.
- Support the team in delivery of outcomes. This includes supporting resource management, priority management, notification (to manager) of any risks or issues to achieving the outcomes.
- Ensure planning related to significant pieces of work is undertaken to support delivery and resource requirements are flagged and managed early.
- Work collaboratively with other Assistant Managers within the Team to identify and manage any risks and issues, the likelihood, impacts and remediation/prevention options.
- Monitor escalated issues and tasks to ensure they are assigned, investigated, managed and responded to within set timeframes.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
NotesA diploma or degree qualification in business, accounting, finance, or progress towards this qualification will be well regarded however it is not essential.
