Your day as an Associate Director

As an Associate Director, you’ll oversee and manage the Government’s largest liabilities (including the $130 billion Crown debt portfolio and the defined benefit superannuation liability) and identify and implement solutions to improve balance sheet outcomes and risk management objectives, as well as policy objectives more broadly.

The team, is focused on improving financial outcomes for the State, including the management of its most significant financial risks, and as such this role has a focus on finance-based solutions and problem solving. You will also provide support to Treasury’s Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO).

This role liaises extensively with other areas within Treasury, with other NSW government agencies and equivalents in other jurisdictions across Australia, and with external stakeholders and market participants.

Achieve success as an Associate Director

In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW. 

You will be successful in this role if you have: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as finance, commerce, econometrics or economics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, as well as Word and PowerPoint. Experience in Power BI would also be considered favourably
  • Demonstrated experience in financial modelling and analysis (such as discounted cash flow analysis) and Financial risk management. Experience with legal documentation and interpretation of accounting standards would also be considered favourably
  • Experience with analysis and interpretation of data sets to identify trends or anomalies, as well as the initiative to raise issues with senior stakeholders
  • Track record of innovation, problem solving and being able to deliver projects that achieve a variety of outcomes 
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, to collaborate with colleagues and negotiate with senior stakeholders in a complex, fast paced environment in order to influence outcomes
  • Ability to clearly convey technical and complex information in different ways (verbal, written and visual) appropriate to the audience and its purpose.
