The Associate Principal will be an integral part of the college executive team. They will work closely with the principal, executive and leadership teams to develop and promote the college vision, motto, and values in the school community.The Associate Principal will ideally be dynamic, highly visible and a proven high performer with demonstrated successful leadership and management experience and strong professional knowledge. Knowledge and experience in Student Services, Classroom Management Strategies (CMS), instructional leadership, coaching and mentoring, and classroom observation and feedback is highly desirable. In addition, a demonstrated understanding of both policy and policy implementation strategies focused on the health and well-being of staff and students is essential.With the commitment and desire to create and sustain a student-centred learning environment, you should identify and implement strategies to meet the diverse needs of students and their families. You will ideally communicate effectively and with diplomacy and modify your leadership style to obtain the best outcomes from all; whilst modelling and promoting the school’s vision and values to develop a staff culture dedicated to the success of all students.As an integral member of the leadership team, you goal will be to establish and maintain collaborative and respectful relationships with a range of stakeholders across the school community, including effective partnerships with external agencies, to ensure all students’ needs are met. You should consistently model, support, and promote positive relationships between students, parents/caregivers and staff and engage parents/caregivers and the wider community in the educational work of the school.Related leadership and management responsibilities will include executive line management of Student Services, the Specialised Autism Learning Program, Learning Support, and executive oversight of the Year 9-10 cohorts. Additional operational responsibilities will be determined based on the skill set of the successful applicant and the business needs of the school.About UsLocated in the northern suburb of Alkimos with sweeping ocean views, Alkimos College opened in 2020 with our foundation Year 7 cohort, providing local intake area students with access to an exceptional secondary education in world-class learning facilities. Each year we will add an additional cohort, until we reach our full complement of Year 7 -12 in 2025.Stage 1 buildings include administration, student services, library, gymnasium, fitness centre, food studios, cafeteria, technologies, general classrooms, nine specialist science laboratories and nature play area. Shared oval and community facilities with the City of Wanneroo are available via the adjacent Halesworth Park precinct. Stage 2 (being roll-out during 2024) includes a purpose-built performing arts centre, dance studio, media classrooms, music classrooms, visual arts studios, lecture theatre, senior school student services, two additional double storey learning area blocks and a new autism centre.The College places a high priority on professional learning, with a focus on a whole of college instructional framework as part of our ‘Alkimos Approach.’ A commitment to self-reflection and growth is highly desirable. The College uses a coaching framework for all planning, review, performance development and classroom observation and feedback. Our staff embrace technology and innovation and enhance their skills with technology to improve work practices. The College provides students with a range of devices available to suit the learning required. Alkimos College has high expectations of the student cohort to ensure all students are well prepared for their future, and have the opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to achieve their potential. This is complemented by a strong focus on student engagement and mental health and wellbeing, through our bespoke Anchor Program. Alkimos College has a Department endorsed Specialised Autism Learning Program and a Gifted and Talented Academic Selective Entrance Program. In addition, we have an academic extension pathway and a Learning Support pathway in Years 7-10 for MESH.This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
- A five (5) page statement addressing the Work Related Requirements in context of the role and business needs of the branch
- A CV of up to five (5) pages outlining your employment history and professional learning summary relevant to this position
- The contact details for two (2) work related referees who can attest to the claims made in your written application, preferably one being your current line manager.
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
