About Better Together Community SupportBetter Together Community Support (formerly Community Services Tablelands), located in the scenic Atherton Tablelands about 1.5 hours away from Cairns, Queensland, is a not-for-profit organisation that delivers a variety of services to the people of the Atherton Tablelands. These range from counselling for families, young people and the elderly to home maintenance and modifications services as well as delivering relief services to the general community through our community hub.
About the role
As a member of the Community Support Team you will work under general direction of the Co-Ordinator, Community Support Team to conduct Brief Interventions with clients accessing the Better Together Community Centre using knowledge, judgement, initiative and work organisational skills acquired from previous work experience or qualifications.
The role requires a compassionate approach informed by the Human Rights Act (Queensland) to the intervention, including the intake, assessment and evaluation stages. You will also be expected to ensure that the assistance rendered is in line with service programs and Better Together organisational policies and procedures.
Your primary program of service will be the Emergency Relief (Commonwealth) Program and Community Support Program. Both programs provide for immediate engagement with the client. Using problem-solving skills, information and knowledge of referral pathways, the role addresses direct client needs while also working to provide support navigating networks and facilitating pathways to meet client needs.
You will also be expected to work collaboratively with other Better Together programs. Your work at this level requires a sound knowledge of organisational programs and their legislative requirements, including the importance of child safety.
ResponsibilitiesYou will be required to take responsibility for contributing to the operational objectives of the Community Support Team by:
- Providing effective interventions that are brief in nature that will address client needs directly and ensure follow-up if, and when, necessary, guided by Better Together organisational policies and procedures and your own judgement if required.
- Engage clients who access Better Together Community Support programs using a professional helping model and supervision and other professional-helping practice strategies.
- Facilitate supported pathways and conduct referrals.
- Provide support and assistance in coordinating programs at Better Together.
- Work collaboratively with Better Together staff, including volunteers to ensure optimum outcomes for the client.
- Keep professional case notes according to Better Together Records Management Policy and Procedures.
- Proficient use of Better Togethers software and databases to ensure accurate records management and support providing high quality reports.
- Support lower-classified staff and volunteers in day-to-day tasks at the Centre.
Selection Criteria
Qualifications
- Qualification in Community Services/Human Services/Psychology.
- Driver C Class Licence.
- Current Working with Children Blue Card or able to successfully apply.
Knowledge and Skills
- Experience in working in the community/human services sector in Brief Interventions or service programs, either in a volunteer or paid capacity.
- Ability to implement organisation policies, procedures, processes and operations.
- Apply interpersonal skills such as building rapport and exploring client experience.
- Understanding and awareness of social justice issues within the community.
- Working knowledge of statutory requirements related to relevant programs and child safety legislation.
- Proficiency in office software and databases including Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Time management.
