BUILDING DESIGNER

We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic self -starter, someone who can work both autonomously and within a team environment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to design and document residential and commercial projects and have tertiary qualifications in building design/architecture.

The role will oversee all aspects of the pre-construction phase by nurturing the client relationship from initial design through to contract signing and construction commencement. Someone that shares our passion for sustainable living and knowledge of prefab modular construction methods is advantageous.

Position Summary:

As directed by our General Manager and Design Director, you will document multiple architectural projects by working to a brief, prepare and assess resources and initiate a design plan. You will support all aspects of the pre-construction phase from initial design, liaising with our clients, through to contract preparation and signing.  A passion for sustainable living and prefab modular construction is core to your day-to-day projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and documentation of multiple architectural projects of varying sizes and liaison with clients in preparation of alterations to plans during the pre-construction stages.
  • Coordinate tasks to manage each client through the pre-construction process to understand and work to the brief, scope and project timing allocated for each project.
  • Liaise with the construction and estimating team to finalise the project construction costs.
  • Coordinate design and documentation required for the town planning/development approval stage including liaising with the external service providers, as required.
  • Oversee selection of interior materials, fixtures and fittings for each project and presentation for the contract documentation.
  • Prepare an assessment of resources required to achieve the desired project outcome and initiate a plan in consultation with Management to achieve those outcomes.
  • Monitor and report on a regular basis to Management the progress of each project in relation to resource management.
  • Develop and maintain strong and ongoing relationships with clients.
  • Liaison with external service providers for reports and permits to be issued for various projects.
  • To contribute as a team member to the successful functioning of the office.
  • Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. 
  • Updates job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging construction trends and standards; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. 
  • Any other duties as directed by the Design Director and General Manager in the achievement of positive project outcomes.

Competencies and experience required:

  • Extensive experience using ArchiCAD software or similar.
  • Strong residential and commercial design and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • Professional work ethic and presentation.
  • Proficient use of all Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Outlook. 
  • 3+ years’ experience in building design/architecture.
  • A passion for sustainable living and has knowledge of solar passive design and construction.
  • Attention to detail for tasks with zero tolerance for errors.
  • A self-motivated individual who can work under stress and meet deadlines.
  • An absolute commitment to customer service.
  • A positive attitude and open mind that approaches problems from all angles.
