THE ROLES
The STS Taskforce has openings for TWO positions in Communication & Business Engagement, an EL1 Assistant Director and an APS6 Officer.
S26 Transfer OR Contract
Joining the STS (Simplified Trade System) Taskforce offers a dynamic work environment, providing a chance to collaborate and contribute to government outcomes. This role enables engagement across various government sectors, requiring a diverse set of skills such as strategic policy, regulatory reform, data and digital strategy, human-centred design, Business Engagement, program management, and corporate support.
The positions are within the Business Engagement and Program Management Branch in Corporate Services, managing all matters relating to the Taskforce's communication and engagement forums, including the Industry Advisory Council and the IAC Working Group, and supports key communication and engagement activities such as the STS Summit.
The EL1, Assistant Director would report to the Director, and the APS6 position would report to the EL1.
The initial contract is until June 28, 2024, with the possibility of extension for an additional period, concluding on June 30, 2025.
Major responsibilities associated with both roles include:
  • Preparing formal documents, agendas, managing action lists, co-ordinating attendees and facilitating preparation of submissions as required.
  • Reviewing and editing documents to a very high standard, in alignment with the format and template requirements for submission to senior executives, Committee Chair and Members.
  • Liaising with a range of senior internal and external stakeholders regarding confidential and sensitive issues, providing detailed and professional advice to plan, coordinate and deliver high quality committee meetings.
  • Engaging, collaborating and building relationships, including with internal and external Senior Executives to deliver high quality secretariat support.
  • Providing administrative and logistical support to the Business Engagement Team on linked activities and events.
Additional EL1 responsibilities include:
  • Support the development and implementation of the STS's communication and stakeholder engagement strategy, and coordinate engagement activities - developing communications and managing feedback on key initiatives and issues.
  • Support STS teams to prepare high quality communication briefs, submissions, and other artefacts on complex issues, often working within tight timeframes.
  • Build and manage strong and trusting relationships that foster collaboration with governments, stakeholder groups, and Industry bodies.
  • Support the development of compelling communication content including public facing reports and content for online platforms.
  • Provide high-level, expert advice and support to the Director, Communications and Engagement team, STS senior leadership team regarding communication and stakeholder engagement activities.
REQUIREMENTS
You must hold Australian Citizenship and Baseline Clearance.
Application Requirements:
You will be an experienced administration professional, with the ability to operate under general direction, providing specialist administrative support, and advice to influence the decisions made by others.
This role calls for an individual that is highly organised, personable, flexible and agile. You will understand customer centricity and be comfortable with conversing and interacting with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You possess a proven ability to think on your feet and proactively find solutions to issues as and when they arise.
You have a strong understanding of the bigger picture and your proactiveness will be crucial in supporting the Senior Executive.
Selection Criteria:
To be successful in this role, the Business Engagement, Assistant Director (EL1)/Officer (APS6) will:
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in providing high level secretariat support to several Committees.
  • Demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgement and manage complex matters efficiently and with discretion.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate respectfully.
  • Have outstanding editing and writing skills and the ability to analyse and condense complex matters into concise written documents.
  • Be able to identify, develop and implement new and improved procedures and processes and provide a thorough understanding of effective corporate governance frameworks.
  • Possess a high level of interpersonal skills including dealing with senior executives, Board members and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Have exceptional organisational, time management and administration skills with demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of legislative, financial and administrative frameworks and have a sound understanding of government decision-making processes.
  • Hold relevant qualifications e.g. Bachelor of Business, or similar and/or have relevant demonstrated experience in governance and assurance is desirable.
Additional EL1 criteria:
  • Ability to think strategically and understand the organisation’s objectives and align operational activities accordingly.
  • Confidently provide strategic advice, problem solving and issues management in relation to complex and strategic matters.
  • Strong stakeholder management, verbal communication and negotiation skills, and ability to maintain these in high-pressure situations.
  • High-level written communication skills including the ability to prepare clear and succinct written advice and content for a variety of purposes and stakeholders, including formal documents and content for online platforms.
  • Excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage priorities to deliver to tight timeframes.
  • The ability to contribute positively to small team dynamics, including the ability to work across teams located in different locations.
