The Carer Representation Advisor role is a full-time 12 month fixed-term position which is subject to ongoing funding. The position attracts a salary package of $83,000 p.a., plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (with 17.5% leave loading) and two wellness days per annum.

Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of all carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental illness, a chronic condition, terminal illness, and alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

About the role:

The role is responsible for supporting carers to have a voice in the health and mental health sectors and provide ongoing training, professional development, and support to carer representatives. The role involves the recruitment, assessment, and induction of carers into the Carer Representation Program, as well as promoting Carer Representation to key stakeholders, assisting with the preparation of reports on program activities, and assisting with the coordination and chairing of network meetings.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Carer Representation Advisor and the Program Administration Officer.
  • Engage in ongoing training and supervision with the Senior Carer Representation Advisor.
  • Interview and assess carers for suitability for the Carer Representation Program.
  • Build and maintain relationships with carer representatives, service providers and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and chair health and mental health network meetings involving carer representatives and external service providers.
  • Attend meetings with the Systemic Policy Team and the Carers WA Policy Working Group meetings to inform systemic advocacy.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary or other qualification and/or experience relevant to the role.
  • Good organisational skills, the ability to multitask, and attention to detail.
  • Understanding and empathy of carers, health, mental health, ageing, and disability issues including with First Nations, CaLD and LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities.
  • Experience in delivering presentations and training.
  • Experience in planning, facilitating, chairing and minuting stakeholder meetings.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills within various communication modes (phone, skype, Zoom, face to face).
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously.
  • Intermediate level of competency using computer software including Microsoft Suite, CRM and/or customised client databases.
  • National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
  • Current C class drivers’ licence.
  • Current Working With Children Check as required
