Position Summary 

The core purpose of the Cargo Duty Manager is to lead a team of Cargo Agents toward safely, efficiently, and reliably exceeding the service delivery expectations of Swissport’s clients (airlines) and their customers on a daily basis. Each Duty Manager will lead the achievement of key objectives for their allocated shift/clients as well as working closely with their peers toward achieving the objectives of the whole Cargo team. 

Experience and Competencies

  • Ability to demonstrate high level personal qualities in relation to adaptability, flexibility, and commitment;
  • Experience in consolidation and deconsolidation of cargo including dangerous goods handling.
  • Must hold and maintain a current forklift license;
  • Excellent communication skills, Interpersonal skills, and time management skills;
  • Must have experience in WMS (Warehouse management systems).
  • Experience in performance management including corrective performance measures and disciplinary matters.
  • Hold an IATA Dangerous Goods Air certification in order to compete dangerous goods checks and sign off on approvals / rejections etc  (preferable)
  • Must hold and maintain a valid red ASIC card (Aviation Security Identification Card) or be able to apply, pass and obtain an ASIC card prior to employment start up.
  • Able to work morning and afternoon shifts or as reasonably directed by Swissport management.
  • Experience with airline administration systems (desirable).
  • Sound knowledge of Government Regulations related to aviation

Main Accountabilities and responsibilities

  • Ensure all airport operations meet Swissport and regulatory standards, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all local and international safety and security standards are met.
  • Management of ULDs including but not limited to airworthiness checks prior to loading of export cargo, damaged ULD control, ULD empty returns within 48 hours and completion of relevant ULD forms.
  • Assist with reconciliation and break down of Import freight and cargo build up of Export freight.
  • Ensure that employee rosters, payroll data entry, employee files and absenteeism calendars are maintained.
  • Ensure Occupational Health and Safety and security programmes are adhered to.
  • Report and investigate accidents and incidents via the company online reporting system.
  • Participation and involvement with the relevant authorities including participation on relevant committees and working groups.
  • Regular completion of cargo warehouse and office safety and security audits.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety and work culture within the workforce, driving warehouse, security awareness compliance and incident reporting.
  • Regulatory compliance involving SACL, Bio-Security, ABF, various airline handling, policies and procedures.
  • Report all hazards, near misses, incidents, accidents or dangerous occurrences to their manager and via the online safety reporting system
