Case Coordinator/Social Worker - Toora and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Service

Full-time Monday to Friday, 76 hours per fortnight. 

ACT Community Sector MEA Level 5/6 - $88,760 to $101,250 per annum, plus super and salary packaging. 

ABOUT TOORA WOMEN INC. 

Toora Women Inc. supports women with complex issues who have experienced past or present trauma, such as: 

  • domestic, family and sexual violence 
  • mental health issues 
  • drug or alcohol dependency 
  • homelessness or needing support to stay out of the homelessness system  
  • time in ACT Corrections. 

Our current domestic violence, homelessness and AOD health treatment programs range across a variety of settings, such as, crisis, transitional and head tenancy accommodation, day programs, counselling and outreach support. This allows Toora to provide wrap-around trauma-informed care within an integrated service system. We deliver these complex services within a human rights and gendered framework. 

Toora’s Specialist Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Service offers a broad range of health treatment and support services specifically for women with severe Alcohol and Drug dependencies in the ACT and surrounding areas. The key focus of all our programs is to minimise substance-related harm and to maximise our client’s health and wellbeing. In line with our AOD Model of Care we utilise an integrated, client-centered and recovery-oriented treatment model that is underpinned by trauma informed and evidence-based practice. All services are based on a theoretical model of recovery, respect and empowerment. This includes encouraging self-help and minimizing the effects of institutionalisation and the harm associated with dependencies. 

ABOUT THIS POSITION 

The AOD Case Coordinator will work towards alleviating the effects of AOD dependency and its contributing factors through the provision of service delivery to women accessing the Toora AOD programs. 

This position will provide variety of service delivery supports to single women or women with accompanying children, who are accessing the Day Program, supported accommodation or outreach services. The aim of this position is to provide high quality and timely AOD supports and will ensure the needs of the clients are met as per agreed case management and treatment goals 

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN AOD CASE COORDINATOR 

Daily you will be part of a multidisciplinary team, responsible for a case load of women, or women with children, who are experiencing drug and alcohol issues. You will be responsible for developing client centered treatment plans, assisting women through evidence-based practice to gain the skills to rebuild and live substance free lives. Your role will cover a variety of tasks on a rostered basis including; assessment and intake duties, 1:1 case management, facilitating residential house supports, assisting with relapse prevention and strengths-based group work, facilitation of the day program, training and administrative duties. Engaging with other services to provide a holistic approach to treatment and best address the complex range of issues involved in substance misuse such as mental health, domestic and family violence and homelessness will be essential in this role. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIRED CAPABILITIES 

  • Experience must cover working with women with complex AOD and co-morbidity issues. 
  • Knowledge of various AOD, mental health and domestic and family violence case management options and treatment models. 
  • Experience of working in a Therapeutic Community 
  • Service delivery skills within trauma informed feminist case management framework 
  • Understanding of the current trends, practices, policies and legislation pertaining to the AOD sector. 
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with proven ability to prioritise, work independently and as part of a team, and seek support and assistance when required 
  • Be committed to providing quality programs and excellent services and support that represent leadership and innovation. 
  • Well-developed communication skills with an ability to adapt communication to suit diverse stakeholders 
  • Able to build strong relationships and work cooperatively, identifying and overcoming barriers to collaboration. 
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and manage own emotions even in difficult situations. 
  • Resilient and adaptable, able to respond to challenges in a positive manner and be flexible to change. 
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office. 

  

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE  

  • Experience working with women with complex and co-morbid AOD presentations, knowledge of and evidence of application of evidence based AOD and mental health treatments and frameworks.
  • Case management foundations (AOD assessment, motivational interviewing, brief and relapse prevention interventions etc.) within a trauma-informed gendered case management framework
  • Bachelor level qualification in relevant fields Social Work, Social Science, Health or Psychology and 3 years sector experience; OR 
  • Diploma in relevant field (eg. Community Services, AOD or Mental Health) and 5 years sector experience
  • Possess a valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration and a satisfactory National Police Check. 
  • Possess a current driver’s license and be willing to drive.
