The Centenary Institute is a world-leading independent Medical Research Institute. Our strength is in uncovering disease mechanisms and applying this knowledge to improve diagnostics and treatments for patients and find cures for some of the most chronic diseases affecting today’s society.
We continue to build on our skills by focusing on and enlarging our research efforts in three key areas: cancer, inflammation and cardiovascular disease.
The Role
Centenary Institute invites applications from motivated individuals to join our Centre for Inflammation as a casual Technical Officer. Shifts will be rostered as required, either morning or afternoon shifts available.
Reporting to Prof. Phil Hansbro, Director of The Centre, this role will be on a casual basis and will assist a large research group run their animal models of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD, aka emphysema) and lung cancer. You will play a vital role in supporting the career progression of our students and post docs and in return there are plenty of people to support you as you perform your daily duties.
No previous experience is necessary as we are able to provide the required training.
The position requires a person who is comfortable handling live laboratory mice, can work reliably unsupervised, independently and is conscientious and organised, and can follow directions and communicate well with others.

- able to follow instructions and be trust worthy to work unsupervised.
- punctual and reliable.
- comfortable handling live laboratory mice.
- computer literate in standard software.
- able to maintain thorough laboratory records.
Desirable skills:
- Previous Technical Officer experience would be desirable, but not necessary as all training will be provided.
