Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) is the Queensland Government's global business agency, assisting Business to enter emerging and established markets, and promoting Queensland as an ideal location for Asia-Pacific headquarters and international investors. TIQ currently has representation in 16 locations globally and drives the whole of government trade and investment strategy. The organization will play a critical role in transitioning Queensland's economy from commodities-based to knowledge-based, attracting more international investors and partners to support our Advance Queensland initiatives, and contributing to the jobs creation agenda.

The CEO provides strong and progressive executive leadership to the TIQ network domestically and internationally and drives the impact and performance of the organisation to meet its aspiration of being a pre-eminent trade and investment organisation in Australia.  The position is employed by and accountable to the TIQ Board and supports the Board in setting the strategic direction.   The CEO also works closely with and provides advice to the Queensland Treasurer who is also the Minister for Trade and Investment.

The role is responsible for implementing policy, taking into account the complex cultural and social environment of working in multiple countries, alignment with government policy and public sector standards, financial accountability and sustainability, regulatory compliance and the provision of a safe and fair work environment.  Ensuring transparency of operations and building a strong internal culture are key priorities for the role. You will manage the organisations operational requirements, to secure the functionally of the business in order to drive extensive and sustainable growth and business improvement. This will include full responsibility in fulfilling the accountabilities and responsibilities in accordance with TIQ's vision, purpose, values and objectives as outlined in the strategic and operational plans.

Specific responsibilities will include:

• Lead TIQ in the delivery of the Queensland Government's Trade and Investment priorities and strategic direction
• Ensure Queensland is strategically positioned to benefit from free trade agreements and global megatrends that impact global supply chains
• Lead collaboration and develop strong working relationships across government and industry to ensure strategic alignment and optimal outcomes from targeted opportunities
• Provide quality policy advice on trade and investment matters and global business issues to Ministers and the Premier, and across the public and private sectors
• Lead the organisation in establishing and leveraging partnerships with industry and government, to increase trade and investment opportunities for Queensland business
• Contribute to the development of Queensland's economy and job creation through trade and investment activities and initiatives
• Collaborating with other public sector agencies, lead the implementation of the Queensland Government's plan for attracting investment to Queensland
• Lead, monitor and evaluate organisational performance, appropriate budget management, reporting regularly to the Board on results and business outcomes
• Monitor risk management and compliance to ensure all obligations are met, and all the organisation's activities comply with relevant Acts, legal demands and ethical standards

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to demonstrate experience in managing change successfully and building a strong culture of governance in leading a relevant organisation that operates in complex global markets, involving both the public and private sectors. You will have experience in formulating strategy in close cooperation with a board, government agencies and political offices and seeing through to successful implementation with particular focus on opening up new opportunities and engaging with the market to stimulate participation and collaboration.  A clear understanding of the Queensland government's priorities and the State's economic environment and its current challenges along with strong political awareness, providing advice and reporting to Ministerial and senior executive levels will be highly valued.
