Wyatts Lawyers are growing, and we are seeking a leader who can help guide the financial systems that empower us.
We are searching for an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our team of high-performing professionals and keep our finances positioned for continued success. This position is for three days per week. The CFO will have a day-to-day ongoing impact on company operations by analysing and strategizing and growing our financial position.
It is critical that the successful applicant have not less than five (5) years’ experience in legal trust accounting.
As a member of senior management, the CFO will be comfortable in a leadership role that requires clear and effective communication skills.
Objectives of the Role
- to take responsibility (either directly or via staff) for all cash management, investments, insurance, budgeting and financial reporting and help drive the company’s financial strategy and hiring needs.
- co-ordinate the development of annual operating, capital and program budgets and the reporting to the Solicitor Directors for same.
- ensure the company’s cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal control activities of the company.
- develop and implement best practices and tools to ensure a well-controlled yet flexible company that has strong fiscal management, project co-ordination, cross team communications and work flows.
- ensure compliance with national and local financial requirements by studying existing and new legislation and taking appropriate action.
Responsibilities
- work with senior managers to efficiently develop budget proposals and implement same, provide access to project finance information and ensure contract compliance and reporting.
- research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyse internal operations and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement.
- perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structure.
- in conjunction with the Chief of Staff oversee human resources operations by coordinating with external service providers (eg payroll, benefits, recruitment).
- monitor business performance with tracking tools and establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports for the management team.
- manage finance personnel and oversee financial IT systems, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory entities.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 5 or more years’ experience in legal trust accounting
- 5 or more years in executive leadership roles
- Excellent leadership skills with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
- exceptional verbal, written and visual communication skills
- understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues and tax planning
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Masters degree in accounting, business accounting, or finance
- Professional certification
