Job description

Our Opportunity for you

Here at Telethon Kids, our vision is simple: happy, healthy kids!

Come and be a part of our values driven organisation as our Chief Operating Officer and have a direct influence on how we work to improve the lives of children and families.

Reporting to the Executive Director, we are looking for a suitably qualified Chief Operating Officer (COO) to support the impact of the organisation. Working closely with others in the Executive Team, and the Board and Committees, the COO role plays a critical role in formulating and operationalising the strategy enabling effective and efficient systems, processes, and practices in support of research excellence.

As a Senior Executive, the role provides leadership and management to ensure statutory, regulatory, and legal compliance across portfolios including people and culture, procurement, facilities management, technology and information, research services and administrative support.

Our research spans many of the critical health issues facing children and families today, from severe diseases like cancer and diabetes to disability, mental health, infectious diseases, precision health and much more. Overarching all of our work is a focus on equity, in particular our commitment to First Nations child health.

Our environment is fast-paced, and we look to our COO and teams to deliver high level services with a strong focus on pragmatic, commercially relevant solutions that add real value in achieving our strategic objectives.

Of particular importance to the COO portfolio are:

  • Balancing risk and innovation, anticipating future needs and opportunities while ensuring the Institute’s financial sustainability.
  • Analysing operations and identifying areas for process enhancement that support research excellence, healthy financial decisions, and positive community outcomes.
  • Creating a constructive culture supporting growth and cross functional collaboration to deliver on our strategy.
  • Monitoring our performance and taking corrective measures, when necessary, in line with our strategic focus.
  • Developing internal customer-centric service systems and processes in support of research excellence.

About You

We are looking for a self-motivated and experienced Senior Executive who thrives in a dynamic environment and who will oversee programs of change management across the organisation. The key to your success will be your demonstrated experience in the following:

  • Proven strategic leadership and business capability at an executive level.
  • In-depth experience in business operating models, data analysis and process enhancement.
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to take complex problems and manage to a resolution.
  • Flexible and capable to perform well in ambiguous situations.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and partnerships (internal and external) at all levels.
  • Have a great sense of humour.

About Us

Our aim is to create a workplace where people are respected and encouraged to fulfil their potential. We encourage a workforce that is innovative, eager to acquire knowledge and enhance skills; we embrace employee differences and foster a culture that supports diversity and inclusion.

Culture and benefits include:

  • Work life balance through flexible work options.
  • Additional annual leave over Christmas and Easter.
  • Save on tax and increase your take home pay by salary packaging up to $15,899 of Living Expenses and up to $2,650 on Entertainment Benefits each FBT year.
  • Extensive health and wellbeing program.
  • Modern offices and end of trip facilities, including sit to stand desks.
  • Access to Corporate Health Insurance.
