As part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality Mental Health services in accordance with the Statewide Mental Health Services Strategic Plan and service principles, Departmental policy and direction, legal requirements, and relevant professional competencies, the Clinical Nurse Consultant - Consultation Liaison:
Provides a specialist psychiatric Consultation Liaison service to all departments across the Royal Hobart Hospital for people admitted with physical health concerns and concurrent Mental Health issues.
Undertakes comprehensive Mental Health and risk assessments and provides advice on the management of care in relation to Mental Health needs.
In consultation with the Mental Health Consultation Liaison Team and other health professionals involved in care, provides patient centred, recovery oriented, trauma informed and evidence-based interventions and care. Monitors and reviews outcomes and assist in discharge planning or transfer of care.
Undertakes a broad consultative and educative role by initiating, building and maintaining networks with clinical service providers including ED, inpatient and community based Mental Health Services, Alcohol and Drug Services, Forensic and Correctional Mental Health Services, Community Service Providers and private and primary care providers.

Details of Appointment
Permanent full time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant
- Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.
Salary: $111,506 - $118,336 per annum. Our Employer 11% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023
Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and possess specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate Mental Health/psychiatric nursing qualification; or completed, prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, and accredited hospital based program that lead to registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse regulatory within Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom.
*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Extensive relevant psychiatric nursing experience and/or is credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse by the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses or equivalent.
- Holds or is working towards a relevant post graduate tertiary qualification.
