Job description

This position offers a unique opportunity for an experienced Clinical Psychologist to meaningfully impact individuals' recovery from mental illness or injury, and contribute to improving workplace mental health, wellbeing, and productivity. Flexibly available for appointment as a contractor, casual employee, or fixed term employee, with flexible hours, and options for both on-site and hybrid working.

Proof of Character is at the forefront of workplace psychological assessments. We undertake tailored, evidence-based assessments across crucial functions including recruitment, leadership and talent, workplace mental injuries and rehabilitation, and employee wellbeing.

  • Recruitment Assessments: We help organisations make informed hiring decisions by conducting in-depth psychological assessments of candidates.
  • Employee Wellbeing: We prioritise the mental health and wellbeing of teams. Our assessments identify potential stressors and mental health risks, enabling early interventions and accommodations, and enabling supportive workplace environments.
  • Independent Medical Examinations, Mental Health Fitness for Work, & Rehabilitation: For employees with mental illness or injury, our assessments facilitate access to appropriate compensation and treatment, and smooth return-to-work through evaluating employee readiness and providing recommendations for successful reintegration.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments including for Worksafe/TAC Independent Medical Examinations, rehabilitation assessments, and other medicolegal or work-related purposes.

  • Conduct structured and semi-structured clinical interviews.
  • Administer and interpret psychological tests and assessments.
  • Provide evidence-based diagnoses and recommendations in line with DSM-V-TR.
  • Produce independent, objective, specific, well-documented assessment reports (including ensuring a direct response to queries specified in letters of instruction).
  • Engage collaboratively with referring agencies, treating practitioners, and other health professionals.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant regulations, processes, and practices.

Depending on the referral source and assessment purpose, assessments may commonly include a clinical interview of up to 2 hours, administration of applicable tests, and between 1-4 hours in total for completion of reports. Turnaround times may vary by client, with reports – up to 10-15 pages – to be completed within 2-7 days of appointment, including responding to any Quality Assurance queries.

Qualifications

  • Current AHPRA registration with endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist, supported by relevant postgraduate qualifications and 5+ years' experience post-endorsement
  • Experience with (or interest in learning) key assessments used in medicolegal assessments, including the MMPI-2, PAI, and/or Rorschach inkblot test (R-PAS).
  • High-quality, clear, and evidence-based report writing skills
  • Prior experience drafting medicolegal reports, undertaking psychological rehabilitation assessments, or other prior experience working with compensable bodies, insurers, rehabilitation providers, or legal representatives is beneficial (preferred, not essential)
  • To meet Victorian requirements for approval as an Independent Medical Examiner (Worksafe/TAC), an average of 8+ hours per week of direct clinical work must be maintained. Therapy hours may be undertaken with Proof of Character, or, independently through other public or private practice.

Benefits

  • Positive work environment in a small, professional team
  • Clinical rooms in Camberwell, with options for hybrid and remote work (telehealth/online consultations/private rooms)
  • Flexible work options, including engagement as a contractor (ABN required), casual employee, or fixed-term employee (part-time/full-time).
  • Competitive rates (offer within range may vary based on experience, and whether engaged as contractor, casual, or fixed-term employee)
  • On-site supervision and mentoring
