What you'll be doing
The position involves comprehensive family and individual assessment, case formulation and treatment planning as part of an interdisciplinary Pain Management team within a tertiary referral outpatient setting. Clinical services provided are within a consultative model of care. It often involves referral and handover to rural and local treatment services or involves ongoing treatment of pain and complex case management. The clinician is expected to demonstrate knowledge of, and competence in providing, assessment and treatment in a range of therapeutic modalities, specifically, systemic family therapy and cognitive behaviour therapy as a minimum. The Clinician will be involved in research projects which are being run by the clinical team.
- Minimum two-year full-time equivalent accredited postgraduate Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology, full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA), and endorsement in the area of Clinical Psychology or eligibility to progress to ‘Clinical Psychology Registrar’ status with the PBA.
- Clinical skills and expertise with Pain Management, mental health and developmental issues in children and adolescents.
- The capability to work in and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team led by a medical consultant.
- Demonstrated experience in a range of therapeutic modalities, with demonstrated expertise in cognitive behaviour therapy and family-based assessment and treatment as a minimum, and the capacity to interview children and families.
- Enthusiastic, hardworking and interested in developing skills working with chronic pain conditions and their management, specifically non-pharmacological strategies.
- Experience and interest in psychometric testing and interpretation.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as to work well in a team.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Applicants currently enrolled in a combined Masters/PhD are eligible to apply if they have completed the equivalent of Masters degree requirements as part of the PhD pathway. Evidence of this is demonstrated by a completed PDEC-76 form and cover letter from the University confirming Masters degree requirements have been met.
Applicants are eligible to apply if they have completed an accredited Masters degree and are awaiting their graduation ceremony. Written confirmation from the University is required.
Successful applicants who have completed the Masters degree or Masters degree requirements and are awaiting full registration from the Psychology Board of Australia will be paid at Year 2 of the Psychologist Scale until they have full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, at which point they will commence on Year 1 of the Clinical Psychologist scale.
