We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial ContractsDelivery Team Leader at Perth Office CBD on a permanent Full-Time basis.

About this role

As the Commercial ContractsDelivery Team Leader, you will be accountable for providing commercial direction across the full Contract Lifecycle including for large, high risk and/or complex commercial arrangements. This will be achieved through leading a team of professionals responsible for the delivery of contracts in line with the Contractual requirements and the enterprise-wide Contract Management Framework, while providing direction in strategy development and negotiation to ensure fair and equitable Contract Management principles are consistently maintained.

This position will also provide specialist and value add advice and guidance to address commercial risk, opportunity and value derived from the contracts and ongoing supplier relationship management.

This leadership role is critical to ensuring their team members are clear on expectations and are accountable for Contract Delivery that has a direct impact on Western Power's business operations.

  • Provide commercial leadership direction across the full Contract Lifecycle including for large, high risk and/or complex commercial arrangements is a key focus for the role.
  • Accountable for the effective and efficient management of Western Power contracts of significant value, complexity, and reputational impact
  • Accountable for ensuring full compliance to, and consistent application of, Western Powers Contract Management Framework
  • Accountable for providing clear technical advice, expertise and direction to the team and has overall responsibility for organising allocated resources to achieve specific outcomes
  • Responsible for the management of a team of professionals performing the role of Contract Manager within Western Power, ensuring they are accountable for the Contract deliverables and for ensuring the appropriate level of resourcing is available for outsourced works
  • Accountable for managing resources to ensure outsourced works are delivered in line with the contractual requirements including:
  • site specific safety management
  • site specific environmental management
  • quality assurance
  • management of schedule focusing on critical path
  • Driving a consistent approach to Contract Delivery processes and procedures including the use of systems, tools and templates within the team
  • Ensuring the appropriate documentation is available to certify claims and variation requests
  • Build a mindset of continuous improvement and innovation within your team
  • Implement, monitor and report on the effectiveness of business processes and systems
  • Implement reporting mechanisms to monitor delivery and performance for your team
  • Participate in team management meetings where progress against key performance indicators are monitored and discussed and report on
  • Role modelling a safety mindset by ensuring a consistent approach to workforce training and development, providing access to appropriate systems and supporting activities that contribute to developing a safety conscious workforce
  • Effectively manage resources within your team including people and equipment
  • Effectively execute employee performance management and the ongoing development of employees, including improving your own personal effectiveness and each of the members of the team
  • Coach and develop direct reports to ensure they are developing to their full potential and mentor them in key people procedures (safety, human resources etc.)
  • Implement business initiatives, procedures and processes within your team

About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Degree qualified in legal or commercial discipline OR degree in business with broad contract management/ commercial management experience
  • Previous experience in a Commercial Manager or Legal Counsel role with demonstrable experience in:
  • contract and construction law,
  • complex commercial and contract negotiation, arbitration to dissolve operational and contract issues to circumvent contract dispute and escalation
  • A seasoned professional with at least 8+ years' extensive industry demonstrated knowledge and technical expertise in complex contract management
  • A thorough knowledge of the external contracting market and contract governance and probity
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical knowledge and experience, coupled with strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership, influencing, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated people management skills with an ability to motivate and lead successful teams
  • Interaction with others is primarily concerned with influencing, developing and motivating people and changing behaviour
  • Knowledge and experience in Contract Law, Construction Law, Australian Consumer Law and related legislation and regulations
  • Demonstrated strong negotiation skills on high value transactions and provision of arbitration to dissolve operational and contract issues to circumvent contract dispute and escalation
  • Interaction with others is primarily concerned with influencing, developing and motivating people and changing behaviour
