- Fixed-term, full-time parental leave replacement from 1 July 2024 to 8 August 2025. This temporary role can be offered as a fixed-term appointment (external applicants) or as a secondment opportunity (UNE current staff)
- $92,970 to $104,094 per annum (HEO7)
- Plus 17% employer superannuation
- Salary packaging options are available
- 5 weeks’ annual leave plus Christmas week shutdown, per annum
- Flexible work arrangements negotiable
- Applicants must have appropriate Australian work rights for the duration of this position (UNE will not provide sponsorship for this position)

About the role
The Communications and Engagement Officer provides Communications and media relations support and advice to the university’s Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business and Law (SABL). You will work with Faculty and industry stakeholders to identify, develop and share the stories of SABL staff, students, alumni, research and achievements, across traditional and social media, with the support of specialist media, Communications and social media staff you’ll work alongside in the Corporate Communications and Events team.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience in communications, media relations and/or journalism roles
- The ability and initiative to identify, develop and tailor written, multimedia and visual material to inform and engage a variety of audiences
- Excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to liaise with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
- The ability to work independently and proactively, exercise sound judgement, and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines

The Corporate Communications and Events Division at UNE helps support how UNE builds, promotes and protects the brand of UNE, creating an ongoing institutional narrative and providing thought leadership by hosting the activities and telling the stories relevant for the communities in which we operate and serve. This position is a parental leave replacement and the appointment is subject to the staff member’s leave arrangements. Should the staff member on parental leave vary their return to work arrangements, this contract may be terminated earlier by giving four weeks’ notice.
Current UNE Staff: In taking up this appointment, the appointee will need to seek approval from the Head of Cost Centre to be released from their substantive position for the duration of the secondment.
