ROLE OVERVIEWThe
Programs & Community Engagement Officer is a dynamic and exciting role fostering basketball activities and
Community Engagement at Shoalhaven Basketball Association (SBA). You’ll oversee the delivery of an exciting mix of activities driving participation growth through year-round activities and will effectively communicate these to the Shoalhaven community.This role is perfect for a highly motivated and adaptable person with a sound understanding of the basketball environment and a passion for the game. You’ll promote SBA programs and operational communications via digital and traditional channels.This role is suited to a recent graduate in Sports Management or a Communications-related field. Applicants who are currently studying in these fields will also be considered. Currently, the role is one day per week with oversight over Aussie Hoops, but it will increase to include other programs as growth increases.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Program Coordination: Plan, organise and coordinate basketball programs such as Aussie Hoops, holiday clinics, and Tigers Academy. Collaborate with coaches and volunteers to ensure the successful delivery. Monitor participation and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
- Growth and development: Assist with the growth in participation of players in the domestic SBA competition, with a particular focus on the graduation of Tiger Cubs into the Aussie Hoops Program and Aussie Hoops players into the Junior domestic competition.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with BNSW and external stakeholders to develop existing basketball development programs.
- Communications: Manage social media platforms, website content, and newsletters to keep members and stakeholders informed and engaged.
- Marketing: Develop and implement communication strategies to effectively promote SBA programs, events and initiatives using a range of digital and traditional channels.
- Social Media: Create compelling and engaging content across digital platforms to support programs and promote SBA as a dynamic and welcoming environment.
- Website Management: Maintain SBA’s website to ensure current and user-friendly content.
- Community: Seek and reshare relevant information and posts on social media from sources such as BNSW, the South Coast Register, IAS, and the SBA community.
- Brand Management: Ensure brand consistency across all digital touchpoints and communication channels. Provide branding guidance to internal and external stakeholders if required.
- Integrated Marketing: Contribute to the direction and creation of branding applications on signage, merchandise, flyers, and other items relating to SBA programs.
- Sponsorship growth and Delivery: Assist with effectively growing and delivering SBA’s sponsorship commitments to promote and strengthen partnerships.
- Analytics & Reporting: Track, measure, and analyse key performance metrics across digital channels to identify top-performing content and provide actionable insights for future planning.
- Market Research & Skill Development: Stay updated on digital marketing trends and sports specific messaging, including monitoring the social media of other Associations.
- Customer Service: Assist the Member & Competition Manager to provide high-quality customer service to our members as required on competition nights.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS- Tertiary qualifications in Sports Management/Admin, Communications/Marketing or a related field. Will consider a student currently studying in these fields.
- Demonstrated understanding of the basketball environment at a domestic and representative level.
- Association Coach qualification (or willing to gain accreditation) with proven ability to develop and deliver basketball programs.
- Passion for basketball and a genuine interest in promoting basketball as the sport of choice in the Shoalhaven.
- Understanding of community sports organisations, including the ability to work with paid and volunteer team members.
- Proactive approach and ability to seek opportunities to raise the Tiger’s profile.
- Proficiency in social media management and content creation across various platforms.
- Familiarity with website management, preferably using WordPress CMS.
- Familiarity with platforms and apps used for digital marketing and communications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Current Drivers Licence.
- Qualified to provide First Aid (or willing to gain qualification)

STAKEHOLDERS & REPORTSThe
Programs & Communications Officer will interact with stakeholders to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and alignment with SBA’s goals.
- Reports to SBA Board.
- Works closely with the Competitions & Member Manager.
- Works with BNSW to deliver programs.
- Engages closely with volunteers.
- May be required to interact with the media, sponsors, and local organisations.
ABOUT SBAThe Shoalhaven Tigers have been at the heart of basketball in the region since 1968. We provide opportunities to participate and develop through basketball in the Shoalhaven region and offer basketball activities for all ages and abilities, from Aussie Hoops to Representative basketball.The SBA office and programs are based in the Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre in Bomaderry.
OTHER INFORMATION- Additional hours may be required during high volume times and must be approved by the SBA Board in advance.
