The Heavy Industry Low Carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC) is an Australian based collaborative venture linking industry, research, and government organisations to develop and de-risk technologies that will create a low-carbon heavy industry sector and achieve Net Zero by 2050. HILT CRC was awarded Commonwealth funds over 10 years in 2021, with investments over approx. AUD $200M (cash and in kind).
PRIMARY ROLE
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Communications and Marketing Coordinator/Manager to lead the delivery of effective communication and Marketing strategies and activities through HILT CRC’s main channels.
HILT CRC has a small head office with broad communications/PR and Marketing needs in a range of fields. Depending on the candidate’s skill set, some of these activities will be completed in house, with the remainder outsourced to external agencies and project managed by the candidate.
These activities include communications of technical content to external and internal audiences, co-ordinating Public Relations, graphic design, the HILT website, social media and branding, using specialist services as required. This role is also involved with event co-ordination, marketing and comms for our annual conference, webinar series and other events, production of key documentation such as our annual report, prospectus and brochures, as well as production of other collateral such as promotional videos and professional photography.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Work with the management team and external provider/s, as required, to plan and deliver the activities identified in the marketing and communications strategy.
- Consult with HILT CRC Partners and key external stakeholders to ensure effective format and delivery of marketing and communications activities.
- Prepare directly, or co-ordinate with an external agency the preparation of media releases and other PR activities.
- Work with HILT CRC’s PR agency (if required) to actively seek media and other speaking opportunities such as external conferences and assist with preparing media articles/releases/communications on HILT CRC’s work for radio, TV, digital and print media thereby communicating outcomes and impacts to government, industry, research partners and public stakeholders.
- Prepare and manage the distribution of a regular newsletter and updates to participants and other key stakeholders.
- Management and preparation of content for HILT CRC’s social media channels.
- Coordinate the preparation of key HILT CRC communications outputs, such as research project outcome reports/summaries, whitepapers, HILT annual report, HILT brochure and presentations.
- Maintenance and improvement of the HILT CRC website, utilising external support as required.
- Briefing and management of communications agency/s and science copywriter/s and graphic artists for projects and services to help raise HILT’s profile.
- Maintain the HILT CRC contacts database via the Salesforce CRM and Mailchimp platform.
- Project manage key HILT CRC events including webinars, and the annual conference.
- Assist with other partner communication activities i.e. The Net Zero Industries Mission to develop communications content.
- Work with external agencies (if required) on HILT’s branding, communications guide etc.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS
Essential
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications in at least one area of Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3+ years in a similar position

- Demonstrable experience of working effectively with key internal and external stakeholders.
Desired
- Experience working in communications in a research context is highly desirable
- Experience using the Adobe Creative suite for producing basic creative content and Marketing collateral.
- Specialist skill sets such as:
- Skills and experience in website content management systems (such as WordPress), and measurement (Google Analytics).
- Demonstrable skills and experience in managing and utilisation of social media channels (LinkedIn).
- Demonstrated experience in other aspects of digital communications such as Mailchimp, Eventbrite, graphic design (InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop).
