Communications Officer

We are looking for a Communications Officer to join our NSW State Government client!

6 month contract with possible extension 
Gladesville and WFH - Hybrid, 3 days in office
Up to $66 per hour + Super

Primary purpose of the role

The Communications Officer supports and proactively promotes the role and contribution of the HPCA and NSW Professional Council, its key priorities and improvement initiatives to a wide stakeholder audience with the overall objective of increasing awareness of health practitioner regulation in NSW. This role develops and implements a range of communication initiatives, and coordinates and prepares responses in relation to enquiries received directly from the Ministry of Health, to ensure key stakeholders are informed of critical and sensitive matters relating to Council actions in relation to undertaking of its regulatory role.

Key accountabilities
- Develop, initiate and implement internal and external communication programs and plans to promote and support the role and work of the HPCA and Council.
- Identify target audiences and their communication needs and assess the extent to which those needs are being met.
- Maintain and update the Council communication strategy and report of achievements
- Provide a range of communication services which include the writing of articles, publications, presentation materials, internal newsletters, website information and annual reports. Plan, source, research, write, edit, proofread, prepare and co-ordinate the distribution of these materials.
- Maintain and continuously improve the HPCA and Council website to ensure content is relevant and dynamic.
- Research and prepare routine responses to media enquiries including from the Ministry of Health in a timely and accurate way.
- Prepare briefings, correspondence and other materials as required to ensure stakeholders are kept informed of critical and sensitive matters relating to Council business.
- Develop protocols and policies to guide staff in how to respond to requests for information and inquiries
from the media, public and external agencies
- Monitor media, publications and other sources (such as websites and social media) for items of relevance and distribute summaries of these to the relevant staff and council members
- Maintain an up to date overview of the Council work, such as any urgent or high profile issues, research or proceedings, in order to identify opportunities and provide timely advice on and responses to relevant issues that may be of interest to the medical profession and the public.

- Managing the provision of quality and timely services to a diverse range of external and internal stakeholders
- Providing accurate and timely information and advice to the Council on issues of relevance in the media or other public arenas
- Developing sound relationships with stakeholders in order to meet their information needs
 
Essential requirements
- Experience in identifying the needs of diverse stakeholder groups and developing relevant communications
- Demonstrated experience in the production of a range of digital communications including media releases, newsletters and website information
- Experience in developing and maintaining online content across a websites
- Experience in developing and implementing communications plans, protocols and programs including the use of social media to identify trends and promote the interests of a public agency
