About the Role

Deaf Connect is seeking an up-and-coming Communications and PR professional to support the development of our external communications function.

Close out 2023 by bringing your creative wordsmithing to a rapidly growing non-profit organisation with a meaningful impact on the community we support.

  • Champion the organisation’s brand through language. 
  • Lead the development of external corporate communications, including:  
    • Media releases  
    • Advocacy and persuasive messaging 
    • Human interest pieces 
    • Video scripts  
  • Support the Campaign Marketing team in the development of communications for a variety of campaigns, such as:  
    • Auslan classes (casual and accredited)  
    • The Deaf Lottery promotional campaigns 
    • Donations campaigns 
  • Develop communications pieces tailored to a range of stakeholders, including the Deaf community.
  • Learn from accomplished communications professionals to continue your career trajectory. 

In consultation with the Head of Marketing and Sales, and supporting the Head of Marketing, the Communications Officer is responsible for developing and coordinating the implementation of sales and marketing campaign communication pieces, stakeholder and customer communications, public relations pieces, and media statements.  

The role also works closely with the Head of Marketing and Sales to develop specific strategic communications plans; aimed at achieving optimum brand position, business performance and growth targets, stakeholder engagement and community outcomes. 

About You

Our ideal team member will be able to use their qualifications and/or practical experience to work with our Marketing and Sales function. To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • Completed a bachelor’s degree in journalism/communications/marketing or a related, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. 
  • A love of storytelling and the ability to use this to meet commercial goals.  
  • Experience and understanding of contemporary communications, customer engagement and public relations theory, practice, and technologies. 
  • Have innovative ideas regarding mixing written and signed languages to ensure a range of audiences can access information.  
  • Experience developing and implementing effective communications and engagement strategies for application across multiple programs, services, and channels. 
  • Impeccable proofreading abilities. 
  • A willingness to learn Auslan if it is not already known.  

To successful applicant in this role will be able to show how their experience will support a greater integration of both English and Auslan in Deaf Connect’s communication pieces into the future.
