Digital Communications Officer - Library Services

About the Role

Wollongong City Libraries (WCL) is a dynamic service of Wollongong City Council. Our goal is to create a world-class library service that empowers people through lifelong learning, resources, information, and experiences.

Across seven locations, we deliver welcoming, safe, and inclusive spaces for learning, access to resources and social connection. We also play a vital role in promoting literacy and preserving local history.

Working in collaboration with a small and vibrant team, you will oversee a range of digital platforms including website, mobile app, digital library resources and social media channels.

This exciting hands-on opportunity works directly with our community and library clients both face to face, and online. Promoting an Extraordinary Wollongong, you will contribute to our community programs, creating digital content, endorsing special events and utilising your creativity.

This is a Permanent Full-Time position, Salary from $78,811.49 up to $88,781.59 per annum plus superannuation. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications).

This role is based in Wollongong City Library, with the flexibility to travel and work from all library locations as required

Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid NSW Working with Children Check. Applicants are required to provide a NSW Working with Children Check as part of the preemployment stage of the process.

What You will be doing:

Passionate about delivering a high-quality customer experience to our community members, you will:

  • Create content such as posts, stories, reels and events on Facebook and Instagram
  • Provide Social media customer support and engagement, including responding to comments and messages
  • Oversee our Website, including adding events and general maintenance
  • Add, maintain and monitor events on "Eventbrite"
  • Complete internal marketing requests
  • Create in-house signage as required
  • Champion as the Comic Gong Digital Officer
  • Ensure the cosmetic maintenance of Wollongong City Libraries catalogue
  • Ensure maintenance and updates on the Wollongong City Libraries App
  • Provide photography and coverage of events as required
  • Provide face to face library customer service

About you:

As a creative, customer service-oriented individual, you enjoy working hands-on with the community and utilising digital platforms to engage with the community. You also bring:

  • A relevant diploma or higher-level qualification
  • Interpersonal skills that foster effective teamwork and positive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering promotional campaigns, and engaging online content
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting digital collections, online services and technology in a library or other relevant environment
  • Experience in website and social media management, along with photography, videography, image and/or photo editing
