About the Role
Environmental Operations Branch is responsible for the preservation, management and enhancement of council’s diverse range of environmental and recreational assets and in partnership with our community, the rich biodiversity of the region’s landscapes. The branch plays an active role within council, liaising with other units, as well as with the community to maintain and deliver high quality environmental outcomes.
The Community Conservation Officer is centred on coordinating community volunteer involvement and participation in bush regeneration and citizen science activities on council managed environment reserves.
Each part-time role will have different focused responsibilities, with the ability to assist with all duties across the team.
One role will be responsible for:
- Managing promotion, recruitment, bookings, communication and coordination of school and corporate volunteer activities.
- Development and coordination of volunteer training program, recognition program and celebration events.
- Coordinating the delivery of environmental events.
One role will be responsible for:
- Planning and delivering regular citizen science and bushcare volunteer activities and events with a wide range of community volunteers.
- Coordinating the delivery of environmental events.
- Delivery of bushcare working bees as required.
The casual role(s) will have the ability to slot into any project or activity as required.
About you
As a professional in Community Conservation, you will have experience in facilitating bushcare and citizen science volunteer initiatives in accordance with desired environmental outcomes and Workplace, Health and Safety standards.
You will have the ability to develop and deliver environmental restoration plans and monitoring programs for environmental areas managed by Council.
To excel on this role, you will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, with experience in liaising with schools, businesses and volunteers.
Experience in planning and delivering community events including programming, logistics and communications is paramount for your success in this role.
You will have the ability to undertake bushland regeneration activities and identify south-east Queensland native and pest plant species and/or ability to utilise resources for identification.
Prior experience in volunteer management, event management, social marketing, contractor management, bush regeneration and/or coordinating environmental restoration programs will be highly favoured for this role.
As a requirement of this role, you will have Tertiary Qualification in Environmental Management or relevant experience.

Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
