Your Opportunity
Fairfax House is a medium-term, supported accommodation service for families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, with at least one child aged under 16. The service caters specifically for families, the fastest-growing homeless group in Australia. The Fairfax House team helps families find and retain safe, secure, and affordable housing and gain the skills and knowledge to prevent a return to homelessness. We accept diverse family groups, including grandparents with grandchildren under their care, as well as two-parent and single-parent families, and can accommodate up to 22 families in two- and three-bedroom units.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the transitional housing facilities to ensure that all aspects of property are maintained and address any areas that need attention
- Provide or source relief support, referral and information to appropriate clients who do not require ongoing case management from the service
- Induct clients into the service including the property, facilities, financials, and regulations
- Work with all client levels to create individualized support plans including referral to supplementary services as needed
- Provide ongoing case management sessions with clients and review progression against case plans regularly and provide informal counselling as required
- Build a portfolio of relevant information that can be furnished to clients relevant to their need, i.e., Parenting courses and information, employment and training opportunities and information, financial counselling services and information etc
- Contribute to the effective functioning and development of the service through involvement in projects, contribution to team forums and meetings, training, and development of staff
Position Requirements
With a significant background in the child, youth & family and/or homelessness sectors, you will be confident in your management and assessment processes. Other requirements include:
- A Degree or Diploma in Social Welfare/Social Science/Youth Work or a minimum of three years' experience in a similar role
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of working compassionately with families that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and the issues impacting them
- A positive and person-centred approach with a strong guiding belief about everyone's capacity to grow within and beyond their current circumstances
- Ability to manage a range of tasks including those which fall outside of case management to ensure the provision of the support required for clients accessing the service
- Senior First Aid Certificate
- Hold a full driver licence with no restrictions
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
