About the role
Reporting to the Communications Specialist, the Content Specialist will be critical in sharing how Southern Ports is building strong regional ports and strong regions through the development of engaging, high quality editorial content used across all channels and platforms.
The Content Specialist will be responsible for copywriting for a range internal and external communications materials, supporting the Communications team to share information on its wide-spread activities and social impact on the regions which it operates within. This position will be instrumental in crafting and embedding Southern Ports’ core messaging across all platforms.
This newly-created position will work to find news leads across the organisation, conduct research to gather relevant information, and craft clear and engaging communications tailored for different channels and audiences including, but not limited to, written, video, audio and visual content.
The successful applicant will be required to work with internal and external stakeholders at each of the Southern Ports locations so flexibility to travel is required. The successful applicant can be located at any of the three regional ports or in our West Perth office.
  
Key Responsibilities

  • Source and develop news stories across Southern Ports’ business activities, working with teams across sites and business areas.
  • Craft and tailor messaging and communications materials to suit Southern Ports’ channels, platforms and audiences.
  • Identify news stories and angles suited to media, social media, internal communications and other opportunities.
  • Edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy and consistency with Southern Ports’ brand and positioning.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop materials to support to communications campaigns and activities.
  • Maintain brand tone and style throughout copywriting and content creation.
  • Conduct research, interviews and gather relevant information to develop content.
  • Contribute to communications planning, across media, marketing, design and digital.
Experience and Requirements
  • Qualifications in journalism, communications or equivalent.
  • Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in copywriting or journalism.
  • Ability to seek out, research and develop news stories in different formats and for different platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels of a business.
  • Excellent writer with the ability to tailor copywriting to suit discrete audiences.
  • Understanding of writing for different channels including website, publications, social media, internal news, media and other channels.
  • Experience in conducting interviews.
  • Sub-editing, fact-checking and unrelenting attention to detail and focus.
  • Intermediate to high level of skill in using Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Familiarity with government processes and protocols is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise work, manage time, determine priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Practical understanding of OH&S practices as they relate to the workplace.
  • WA C class driver’s licence
Requirements
To be eligible for this full-time role, applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
  
The successful applicant must have a current WA driver’s licence, be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Access Card and undergo a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing.
