The Opportunity
The Continuous Improvement Senior Technologist is a unique role, representing the R&D team in the manufacturing facility. Working closely with the R&D Manager, this role is responsible for the ongoing nutritional and cost performance of formulations, and investigates and optimises cost saving and yield optimisation initiatives. In addition, this role supports the in-process research and development activities on site and provides technical support and expertise to operations, quality and procurement teams to support day to day manufacturing.
Duties and Responsibilities
This is a collaborative role, working across different areas of the business to support R&D activities. Duties include but are not limited to:
- collaboration with head office R&D team and also procurement, quality and manufacturing teams to implement changes to recipes/formulations, packaging
- monitor nutritional performance of formulations to ensure the finished products are compliant
- R&D activities include participation in designing new products, sourcing new ingredients, managing production trials and product testing
- support creation of R&D master data including finished product and raw material specs, and nutrient profiles
- assists Technical Services veterinarians to manage incidents potentially caused by food products ensuring a safe and healthy solution for the pet and pet parent
Role requirements
High level communication, negotiation and team work skills are critical for this role, in addition to a sound ability to work wiht numerous stakeholders in various locations. The successful applicant will also have:
- a Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline including animal science / biology/ nutrition / food science or related.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in food manufacturing with a strong preference for prior R&D experience
- Experience in feed/food formulation including the use of relevant software
- Sound knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, Outlook and Teams
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to analyse costs
- Expertise in animal nutrition, preferably companion animal will be highly regarded.
