The Role and our Branch
The Operational Initiatives branch is responsible for the management and implementation of strategic education programs that support schools and student outcomes. Typically, these programs involve partnership and liaison with the non-government school sectors, corporate and not-for-profit organisations in Western Australia. Delivery of support and services to public schools assisting them to implement these programs is a key responsibility of the Branch.

As the Coordinator - School Sport, you will assist with the planning, implementation and evaluation of specialist teaching and learning support in response to the needs of public schools and the Department’s strategic direction. You will support schools and education regions through the development of implementation of whole-school strategies to improve quality teaching and learning in the area of sport.
The successful applicant will assist school leadership teams in implementing Department initiatives in relation to strengthening sport in schools and contribute to the development and delivery of professional learning and resources to strengthen sport in schools.

- Demonstrated substantial knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning practices and requirements in relation to delivery of sport in schools.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing, monitoring and reviewing professional learning and support programs in relation to strengthening sport in schools.
- Demonstrated highly developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build partnerships and integrate services both within and beyond the Department.
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with change and generate innovative solutions related to teaching and learning issues.
- Demonstrated highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including experience in the preparation of reports, briefings and other documentation to support and inform senior officers.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
