The Normanton QGAP is one of 12 Magistrates Court facilities in the North Queensland Region. Along with Transport and Main Roads, and Magistrates Court Registry, it also provides essential information, face-to-face assistance and advice on a range of State and Federal Government services to clients in areas where access to services can be limited. Access theAs a Court Services Officer, the appointee will ensure that administrative processes relevant to the operations of courts are performed efficiently, including the delivery of quality services to members of the public, judicial officers, jurors and other internal and external clients, in a manner responsive to clients' needs.You will be expected to assist others in the performance of their duties, and to undertake the more complex and/or onerous duties associated with day-to-day processing of matters in the registry or courtroom. Your role is also responsible for modelling professional and ethical behavior and being committed to personal development.You will be responsible for ensuring policies and procedures and use of court technology and systems are understood and followed. As part of your role you will be expected to know and understand the relevant legislation including but not limited to, the Penalties and Sentences Act, the Justices Act, and the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012.Court Services Officer's provide administrative support to circuiting Judiciary so applicants must be willing to travel to remote locations on light aircrafts.People who work within the courts environment can be exposed to some harrowing and distressing circumstances. Exposure to those circumstances can result in people experiencing vicarious trauma. In this role, via your day-today work, as Court Service Officer, you may be exposed to information about offending behaviours, criminal activity and other explicit, distressing or offensive content. Court Services Queensland has a range of strategies in place to help prevent vicarious trauma and support staff who experience vicarious trauma as a result of their work. However, personal resilience and individual coping strategies are an important factor. You should consider this carefully before applying for the role.As a Court Services Officer you will:
- Provide administrative support to ensure the efficient and effective operation of Queensland Courts and Court Services Queensland Registries;
- Comply with administrative systems and processes relating to the operation of the court and registries to ensure the delivery of quality services to relevant clients and stakeholders;
- Prepare, process and manage correspondence, court documents and other documents of an administrative/financial nature in accordance with legislation and departmental policies and procedures in a timely and accurate manner;
- Develop and maintain professional and collaborative relationships, and confidentially communicate with key court stakeholders including members of the judiciary and their staff, other government agencies, self-represented litigants and the general public regarding matters before the Queensland Courts;
- Use, update and monitor relevant databases and files in line with departmental guidelines to ensure accuracy and confidentiality of data and efficiently operate court technology;
- Provide appropriate information to members of the public and other internal and external stakeholders about court and registry services, court rules, practices and procedures in a timely manner;
- Assist to review and develop service improvements with regard to processes and procedures;
- Assist with the supervision of staff by providing fair and specific performance feedback and identifying training and development opportunities to ensure the efficient operations of a work unit;
- Perform other administrative duties as directed by the Registrar.
- Intra State travel may be required from time to time and staff must be prepared to travel to rural and/or remote locations
