Data Analyst will be responsible for gaining a deep understanding of Labor’s online audiences and the political digital environment in Australia. The role calls for a creative approach to analysing our activity, campaigns and the digital landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Analytics Analysis
- Transforming complex data into easy-to-understand advice for stakeholders;
- Building data visualisations and dashboards to track online data sources;
- Standardising data from diverse sources;
- Provide audience analysis utilising social and website analytics.
- Scrutinise digital assets and offer data-backed suggestions in support of our organisation’s goals.
- Conduct deep-dive analysis on our audience to help drive experimentation and user improvements.
- Contribute to improvements to the digital strategy.
Join the Dots
- Join the dots between our website, social activity, advertising and database assets to inform our communication approach.
- Drive implementation of analytic tools to ensure reliable and robust reporting for a variety of audiences.
- Report on weekly performance of social landscape, ads and web properties.
- Work with internal stakeholders to co-ordinate data-driven approaches to campaigning.
Essential skills
- Experience working with relational databases and the SQL query language;
- Programming experience in R or Python;
- Experience with data visualisation;
- Ability to explain data and technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form productive working relationships with a range of users and stakeholders;
- Ability to work autonomously or under limited direction and occasionally to compressed timeframes;
- Commitment to the values of the ALP;
- Capacity to exercise judgment, discretion, and initiative within a politically sensitive environment.
Desirable skills
- Experience with mapping software (e.g., QGIS);
- Experience of software deployment (e.g., AWS, Azure);
- Experience of software development;
- Advanced SQL skills.
Relationships
This position reports to the Assistant National Secretary, Director Target Seats Unit.
Key relationships include:
- Data & Research Manager, Target Seats Unit;
- Technical Organiser, Target Seats Unit;
- Digital, IT & Operations Units;
- Counterpart roles at State and Territory Branches of the Australian Labor Party.
About the role
This is a full-time fixed-term appointment based in Canberra, but options to be based in Sydney or Melbourne will be considered for the right applicant. Relocation assistance may be available to assist with interstate relocation to Canberra.
Expected salary is up to $83,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
