Spearwood Primary School (PS) are seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for appointments to permanent and fixed term, part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year to the end of term one 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year up until the end of term one 2025.

Spearwood Primary School (PS) is seeking a highly motivated educator with excellent leadership qualities for the role of Deputy Principal encompassing:

  • Student Services
  • Quality Teaching and Learning
  • Management of Student Behaviour

In collaboration with the Principal and members of the administrative team, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness. 

Suitable applicants will ideally possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to provide excellence in educational leadership, also Ideally be able to self-reflect, promote an environment of active and positive behaviour management, data driven attendance strategies and knowledgeable curriculum support strategies including a possible teaching role. You would work closely with students, teachers and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students.

Suitable applicants should have a clear understanding of the conditions and learning environments required to prepare students for success. They will ideally be high performers with successful leadership and management experience.

The Suitable applicants should also possess extensive knowledge in whole school approaches to curriculum, data analysis, and the ability to successfully assist staff with identifying key areas of focus to support the school’s Vision, Business Plan and Operational Plans. It is recommended that applicants have an understanding of the Spearwood Business Plan, Instructional Coaching focus, policies and procedures. Leading of the school Student Services team across the school is a high priority in this role and includes the coordination of school psychologist, Chaplain,and Allied Health Services.

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
