This is a six (6) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024 with possible extension and/or permanency.

Balga Primary School (PS) is seeking a to appoint a Deputy Principal who is a dedicated and enthusiastic instructional leader who can keep growing excellence in teaching and learning, commit to care and belonging and connect our community.

The successful applicant will ideally have exceptional knowledge, skills, and experience in being able to lead and compliment the pedagogical direction of our school. This is inclusive of understanding and having experience with instructional coaching to support teacher efficacy to continue to promote the culture of professional growth with all staff in the school.

The successful applicant should also have a sound understanding of managing students at educational risk, utilising resourcing effectively and providing opportunities for students to reach their potential. In this role you should build strong relationships with staff and students with a focus on social and emotional well-being, restorative practice, and positive approaches. You will ideally display an ability to lead collaborative teams through evidence-based improvement processes to ensure student achievement and work closely with teachers in class or in a support capacity to assist with individual education goals.

The successful applicant will ideally be required to lead and manage some of the below key areas:

  • Whole school approach to lesson design, curriculum and methodologies including Explicit Direct Instruction and Daily Reviews.
  • Lead professional learning for staff.
  • Coaching and mentoring of staff.
  • Performance development of staff.
  • Model behaviour management skills as part of a whole school positive education focus (PBS).
  • Tiered Response to Intervention (including disability resourcing.)
  • Adopt a strengths-based approach in leading and supporting teachers of students with special needs and maintain a case management approach involving parents, teachers, support staff, school psychologist, chaplain and any other DOE or external agency that can assist students to progress in their learning.
  • Create links to external agencies that can support students with special needs.
  • The embedding of Aboriginal perspectives, Early Years Learning Framework, ICT, STEM and Sustainability across the curriculum.
  • Data analysis as the basis for evidence-based decision making.
  • Track, monitor and promote positive attendance habits with students and families.
  • Establish a strong rapport with students and families.

The successful applicant will ideally have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a high level of organisational skills to work with our team to incorporate strategic intent into operational plans which maximise student engagement, motivation, and achievement.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

 Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
