The Role
Advanced Manufacturing Queensland is seeking a Design Engineer to our design team with clearly demonstratable relevant experience in the field of engineering. The Design Engineer will work with stakeholders to ensure all manufacturing parts have a drawing with clear revision control, clear specifications, the BOM’s are structured and up to date following the defined processes. You will be involved in continuous improvement projects to ensure the requirement and expectations around new designs and part changes are understood and documented. You will control a suite of 3D printers for printing of prototypes and production parts as well as full control of file storage systems ensuring the latest versions are easily accessible. You will work with other functional leaders with the wider business to ensure signoffs and approvals are received where needed.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate all activities related to engineering Change processes with responsibility for results, including cost, quality, and effectiveness. Provide project management of any cross-functional ECR teams to achieve objectives.
- Work with SQE, Procurement, Production, Subassembly to understand the requirement and need for the change.
- Coordinates the suite of 3D printers, accessories and consumables to insure they are always ready to produce parts.
- Where needed supply relevant information to all stake holders to ensure speedy engineering and certification approvals.
- Proficient in Solidworks and the design of components including 3D part modelling, 2D drawings, working in and structuring complex assemblies, design package studies, Bom structures.
- A good understanding of design for manufacture and understanding of basic tooling / manufacturing methodologies.
- Stay on top of the dynamic Design Engineering trends and cutting-edge technologies in the field.
- Manage and communicate the potential impact to operations for all engineering changes.
- Support the operations team through change management process.
- Develop positive working relationships with all employees, using a collaborative approach to ensure the best overall success and to spark ideas for continuous improvement.
- Drive Culture Change and Fact-Based decision making throughout the organization.
- Use appropriate problem-solving tools to provide rapid improvement with sustainable results.
- Ensure all project deliverables are achieved including DFMEA, APQP
- Support in other areas of Operational Excellence
- Working with leadership to implement the company's policies, procedures and goals.
- Analyse and develop reports related to Engineering and ECR functional requirements.
- You will be expected to collaborate in other tasks and activities that will be out of your main responsibilities.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering ( Mechanical)
- Minimum 2 years experience in engineering
- Trained in 3D CAD modelling
- Highly desirable to have complex Class A surfacing experience
- Exceptional problem solving and math skills
- Strong attention to details
- Proficiency in 3D CAD softwares (mainly Solidworks)
- Product focussed creative thinking
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Organisation and effective time management skill
- In depth knowledge of industry design principles
- Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems
- Detail oriented for understanding complex systems and the ability to pay attention to details, as a minor error can in major problems
