An exciting opportunity has become available for a Design Manager to join our national structural steel company based in Brisbane CBD (or Melbourne CBD). As a result of continued growth, the company has secured a strong pipeline of industrial/commercial warehousing projects for 2024 and 2025. The Role - What will you do?
In this role you will have full oversight of where all jobs are positioned from the drafting stage to finalisation, and you will be responsible for:
- Managing client communication and coordinating the documentation process with consultants
- Ensuring drafting subcontractors are working to their deadlines and you are across all potential delays
- Submitting all substitution and paint specifications for consultant reviews for specific imported steel
- Reviewing drawing and documentation and providing recommendation for updates
- Reporting any design issues to the relevant managers or the Managing Director
- Analysing specifications, plans and related technical data to determine time, cost and labour requirements for projects
- Participating in detailed design team meetings to ensure estimates are relevant to scopes of works, stakeholders' expectations and are cost effective
- Keeping track of all RFI’s
- Implementing and managing the Safety in Design process
- Performing post-project reviews (Lessons Learnt) to assess project performance and identify improvement opportunities
- Complying with and promoting Company policies, guidelines and procedures
- Ensuring relationships are maintained with all stakeholders, liaising with drafting stakeholders to track progress on projects to communicate with Clients
Skills & Experience - What do you need?
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- Degree qualifications in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or similar
- To have worked in a similar role for a minimum of 3 years (post-graduation)
- A demonstrated understanding of the Structural Steel Industry would be highly regarded
- Significant site exposure
- Project Management experience demonstrating time, cost and scope understanding
- Excellent communication both written and verbal
- Demonstrated experience in functional briefs, consultant scopes and engagements
- Advanced MS office skills
