APG Workforce are currently seeking an experienced Development Extension Officer for a role based in a South Johnstone Government Sector.

As our Development Extension Officer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting a variety of research projects aimed at improving agricultural practices and outcomes. You will be responsible for the implementation and management of field trials, data collection and analysis, and stakeholder engagement. This role requires a detail-oriented and proactive individual with a strong background in agronomy and field-based research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Site Selection & Trial Design: Select suitable sites and design trial field plans to effectively implement trials and demonstrations.
- Trial Implementation: Conduct soil and plant sample collection, weighing, recording, and processing.
- Data Collection & Collation: Gather and accurately record data from the field and lab, including observations on plant growth, nutrient uptake, and input use efficiency.
- Equipment Calibration: Calibrate planters, fertilizer applicators, and spray rigs.
- Identification & Management: Identify weeds, pests, and diseases, and manage them accordingly.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Engage with industry stakeholders, including growers, to facilitate practice change and report progress through the P2R projector app.
- Event Preparation: Assist in the preparation and delivery of field days, shed meetings, and industry events.
- Collaboration: Work with project leaders and team members on various research, development, and extension projects, such as evaluating the Soil Post Legume Nitrogen Application Tool (SPLAT) and highlighting the benefits of reduced tillage and controlled traffic in sugar-based farming systems.
- Qualifications: Australian Bachelor's degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in agricultural science, applied science, rural science, or a related field. International qualifications must be assessed for comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework.
- Licenses: Hold (or be willing to obtain) a current Commercial Operator's License for the safe application of herbicides and a current 'C' class driver's license.
- Agronomic Knowledge: Understanding of broadacre cropping systems and agronomic needs in coastal environments.
- Research Skills: Ability to conduct, manage, and report on field-based research using on-farm methods.
- Data Collection: Proficiency in capturing plant growth and nutrient uptake data through plant and soil sampling techniques.
- Problem Identification: Ability to identify and manage weeds, pests, and diseases.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong skills in maintaining productive relationships with peers and industry stakeholders.
- Networking: Demonstrated networking and coordination skills using adult learning processes and community engagement principles.
- Data Management: Capability to electronically capture and store data for statistical analysis.
