Job description

  • Track down the best comedy and drama projects to help grow ABC Scripted audiences
  • Ultimo, Sydney: Convenient CBD location (near Central Station)
  • Full Time, Permanent Role
  • $104K to $129K plus 15.4% ABC Nominated Super Fund

About the Role

In this role you will identify and analyse new scripted projects with focus on popular, original and diverse content consistent with the aims of ABC television and to contribute to the growth of ABC iview. Under broad direction assess the suitability and viability of both solicited and unsolicited program proposals submitted to ABC Scripted.

You will also:

  • Manage the external submissions portal and the ABC Scripted database and reporting software, facilitate assessment workflow, and chair regular submissions meetings.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations regarding project submissions, providing assessments through succinct and insightful analysis, and excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Manage the development process for drama & comedy content across all genres, including assessing development budgets and driving development timelines through to delivery.
  • In collaboration with the Scripted team, draft development proposals for drama and comedy programs for the greenlight committee.

About You

We are seeking an experienced Development Manager with significant experience and thorough knowledge of the development and commissioning process of scripted television or streaming programs across a wide range of formats and sub-genres. You will have outstanding editorial skills with proven ability to identify drama and comedy programs that are in line with broadcaster objectives and meet the aims of the intended platforms.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated high level ability to manage a comprehensive slate of varied projects simultaneously.
  • Proven track record working with or within the Australian or international screen production sector, including a passion for working with and developing talented creators at all stages of their career.
  • Demonstrated outstanding ability in use of technology and applications, including accuracy of input and interpretation of information on computer applications and ABC software databases. 
  • Provide outstanding editorial judgement, including considerable experience in project evaluation and story development, through the development process that ensures content satisfies ABC Scripted’s growth targets, editorial and production standards and ABC Editorial Policy and Charter obligations.
