ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Place and Engagement team aims to collaborate and listen to the community to embed its voice and values to shape how we live, work and play through the enhancement of public spaces, community engagement and the development of Cumberland’s economy. The team are proud members of IAP2 Australasia and the Australian Smart Communities Association.

We have an exciting opportunity within our Place and Engagement team for a talented Coordinator Place Activation and Development who will promote and raise the profile of Council's Place Activation and Development team initiatives across Council and the community. 

Reporting to the Manager Place and Engagement, this role leads a team of staff working across all Council service areas and within the community to resolve issues and improve outcomes for the community. The Place Activation and Development team members operate ‘on the ground’ to action and resolve issues raised by the community and Councillors, from day to day infrastructure and maintenance issues to developing improved community networks and local collaboration to address local concerns. This involves developing strategic partnerships with community groups, local business, service providers, government agencies and residents to improve cooperation at the local level.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Business, Social Sciences, Urban Design or related discipline and/or experience in similar role
  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision and ability to lead, motivate and manage a high performance team, including coaching, mentoring and performance management of staff
  • Undertake small scale place based urban improvement projects from concept to delivery, to assist in lifting the amenity of our town centres and key precincts. Including the management of contractors
  • Demonstrated experience in strategy and/or policy development in a business or local government context
  • Demonstrated analytical, research, problem solving, and investigative skills
  • Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication skills; and interpersonal skills including negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated experience in high-level stakeholder management, with the ability to develop and maintain productive relationships that result in outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability in project management in relation to developing, coordinating and managing projects, delivering outputs on time and within budget
  • Demonstrated experience of working with community / business groups collaboratively to deliver town centre initiatives and projects
  • Demonstrated experience in or working knowledge of place-based disciplines 
  • Class C driver’s licence
  • Working with Children Check

About this role: 

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 35 hours per week 
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO) arrangement
  • Located at Council's Auburn office, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations.

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 13 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of  $2,040.15 to $2,346.17 per week, plus 11.5% superannuation (please note this salary range and superannuation percentage will apply from the first pay period in July 2024) 
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
  • Car allowance of $11,608.48 per annum or a leaseback vehicle
