About the Role
The role exists to increase the number of Rugby players in the Moreton Bay region by providing the necessary education and support for Clubs, Schools, Coaches and Match Officials as well as appropriate recruitment and retention programs.
The Development Officer will work across three key focus areas:
- To connect clubs and schools whist building relationships to grow the game and improve the quality of coaching and training environments, both at junior rugby clubs and schools, through education, club engagement initiatives and competitions.
- Support junior clubs with the recruitment and retention of players specifically at primary age as well as, coaches and match officials across all facets of the game. Converting participants into regular rugby players from programs or gala days.
- Deliver programs and provide opportunities that enhance, support, and build our rugby communities.
What success looks like:
- A greater number of people playing and staying in rugby clubs across defined region.
- Higher quality of coaching, training environments and match officials at junior clubs and schools within region.
- An increased number of schools playing in XV’s and Rugby 7s competitions, while developing strong connections from schools to Rugby Clubs resulting in more junior rugby players within region.
- Improved sentiment of the game within the community
Recruitment Programs & Events
- Deliver Rugby recruitment programs and events for schools, that ensure connection with a club or school competitions.
- Plan in conjunction with their local clubs the yearly, monthly and weekly Development strategy.
- Proactively work with clubs & schools to recruit new participants and drive further rugby opportunities and connections with Clubs or school competitions.
- Support the Regional Rugby Manager to manage and develop a group of casual coaches to deliver recruitment programs and events within the defined region.
- Promote, plan and manage Active Rugby Hubs and Sporting School Programs as well as new regular Competitions with clubs.
Build Community Relationships
- Build strong relationships through regular face-to-face contact with key rugby stakeholders.
- Maintain an accurate contact database with clubs and schools to drive.
- Create or strengthen partnerships between Junior Clubs and their local primary, secondary schools or tertiary institutions.
- Work with Junior Clubs to develop a recruitment plan for the region.
- Work with local school associations (BCE, SECA, TAS, AIC & GPS) to establish rugby opportunities and introduce / build schools rugby competitions.
Retention
- Work with Junior Clubs to develop a retention plan for the region.
- Work with individual clubs to develop tailored retention plan.
- Work with the GCDRU & BJRU competitions managers to work directly with junior rugby clubs on tailored retention strategies
- Work with Regional Rugby Manager to develop a coach education plan to support schools, clubs.
- Attend junior rugby events as required
Promotion and Administration
- Contribute relevant material for QRU Social Media Channels.
- Keep accurate participation records through regular participation census updates and provide monthly reports on all participation and recruitment activities undertaken and provide to clubs.
Workforce Education
- Assist in the planning and delivery of the coach and match official education programmes in your region
- Market accreditation and seminars to clubs, schools, parents, new coaches, established coaches
- Provide support to course attendees to complete all course specific components in conjunction with the Regional Rugby Manager.

Qualifications
Mandatory
- Current Working with Children Blue Card
- Relevant Industry Experience
Preferred
- Minimum Rugby Australia Level 2 Rugby Union Coaching Accreditation
- Tertiary Qualifications in Sport & Recreation/Management
- Event Management
- Knowledge of Rugby Union within Brisbane and Moreton Bay Region
Technical Competencies
- Adequate computerskills and information technology literacy
- A current driver’s license and access to reliable transport
- Experience in working with children in a coaching environment
