About the NUW Alliance:
The NUW Alliance comprises of four leading Australian research-intensive universities - the University of Newcastle, UNSW, the University of Wollongong and Western Sydney University.

The size and scale of our Alliance has not been seen before in Australia - over 240,000 students plus 18,000 staff, working across 37 locations including 15 innovation hubs and driving $1.4 billion in industry and community partnered research.
About this newly created opportunity:
Following a recent operational realignment within the NUW Alliance leadership team, we have created an exciting opportunity with the new Director NUW Alliance role. The role reports to the NUW Alliance Board, with one direct report.
This role would suit a visionary leader able to balance and navigate the complexities of this highly innovative alliance framework. We are also looking for an individual able to engage and align outcomes closely with those of our government and industry partners, to continue to build on the momentum and success already achieved from the alliance partnership.
To be successful in this role you will need a solid understanding of the Higher Education space, and how this intersects with industry; but more importantly and primarily government engagement and relevant policy changes. You will ideally have a natural collaborative yet entrepreneurial flair, be proactive and pragmatic with your outreach activities, possess seamless bid and submission coordination skills, and expertise with management of both alliance, and high level external stakeholder engagement.
What skills and experience you bring to this role:
  • Tertiary qualification in related discipline with substantial experience in management, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated capability in effective interaction and management of key government and higher education industry stakeholder groups and networks.
  • Significant track record of securing and/or managing large scale funding from state, federal, international and private sector sources for research or other programs or initiatives, including substantial experience in managing multimillion-dollar budgets.
  • Demonstrated partnering skills and the ability to work collaboratively at all levels with a record of successful interaction with a range of stakeholders, including government and professional organisations.
  • Excellent leadership and change management skills complemented by strong performance management and business acumen focussed on delivery against performance targets.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and negotiating formal governance arrangements for new partnerships, networks and alliances.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated success in conducting consultations and high-level negotiations with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience with preparing and delivering major reports, briefing documents and presentations to a broad range of audiences, including Executive and Board meetings.
