Global Medics is partnering with a large Health District, 1 hour south from Sydney on the coast.
As the Director Medical Services (DMS) you will be accountable, in collaboration with senior clinical and management colleagues, for ensuring delivery of quality clinical outcomes, District KPIs and strategic priorities. They are a key member of the District Quality and Governance Council, the Hub and Group executive teams, and other coordinating bodies.
Your duties will be, however are not limited to:
- Provide high level expert advice to the General Manager and Executive Directors on all medical workforce matters, including workforce professional development and professional competency, medical workforce planning and strategy.
- Ensure effective engagement of Medical staff to encourage collaborative relationships, open discussion, respectful conduct and decision-making empowerment in support of improved patient safety and financial outcomes.
- Liaise with Medical Workforce Unit, Divisions, Colleges, Specialist Associations, Health Education and Training Institute and the Ministry of Health on all senior and junior medical staff strategic issues.
- Ensure that programs are in place that develop the teaching and clinical supervision skills of individuals within the facilities to support continuity in the organisation's ability to effectively train and teach medical staff.
- Facilitate collaboration and effective communication between stakeholders and liaise with Medical Schools, universities, specialty colleges, and professional bodies to build networks that facilitate education and training opportunities for medical staff.
- Actively lead and provide expertise towards District's clinical governance function, including quality, accreditation, medico-legal function, incident management and patient safety programs at the hub.
- Provision of high level expert advice to the General Manager and Executive on all clinical governance matters, including quality, accreditation, medico-legal function, incident management and patient safety.
- Work with the Divisional Co-Directors to ensure that robust governance frameworks are in place and that appropriate monitoring and evaluating programs have been enacted.
- Develop effective working relationships between the District Clinical Governance Unit and the Hub/Service based clinical governance teams to drive the foundation principle that patient safety and quality is the responsibility of all clinicians and managers.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Registered Medical Practitioner with AHPRA or eligibility to obtain
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (FRACMA) or expected to receive FRACMA in the next six months or other specialist recognition with significant relevant experience as a clinical leader.
- Demonstrated leadership skills within a complex health service with the ability to motivate, inspire and organise staff to achieve organisational, program and professional outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in clinical strategic planning and clinical leadership for the provision of programs, and services consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
- Demonstrated success in driving improvements in clinical governance systems, accreditation and provision of healthcare services.
- Demonstrated experience provision of clinical leadership, medical education and governance over medical workforce management
- Proven ability to design and lead change initiatives with the purpose of enhancing the delivery of care to a diverse population in a public health setting.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, consult and negotiate with senior health professionals, management, staff and external interest groups and government agencies.
