About The Opportunity
SWSLHD Drug Health Services is actively seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Director of Medical Services to lead its clinical operations and uphold the highest standards of patient care.
The Director will oversee a range of key accountabilities, including providing clinical management and treatment to patients within the facility, ensuring meticulous documentation of patient records, and participating in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
With a commitment to education and training, the Director will contribute to the development of Medical education programs and provide supervision to junior medical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the department.
The successful candidate will navigate various challenges, including managing resources effectively to ensure efficient service delivery, supporting the development of organisational development and quality management systems, and ensuring the maintenance of relevant policies and procedures.
They will cultivate strong internal relationships with key stakeholders such as the General Manager of Drug Health Services, the Drug Health Services Leadership Team, and the broader SWSLHD Executive, while also routinely interacting with external service providers to optimise service provision.
To meet the selection criteria, candidates must possess a current medical practitioner registration, specialised knowledge in addiction medicine, and a proven track record in clinical leadership, change management, and adherence to evidence-based practices.
The Director of Medical Services will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of SWSLHD Drug Health Services in delivering compassionate, comprehensive, and innovative care to individuals dealing with drug and alcohol-related issues in the community.
How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible. * Current medical practitioner, registered with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellow of the Australian Chapter of Addiction Medicine and/or other specialist recognition as provided under the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

  • Approved opioid pharmacotherapies prescriber with a proven track record of achievement in the development and management of drug and alcohol treatment services in response to clinical demands.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Commonwealth and State policy in drug and alcohol, including understanding of clinical governance and a commitment to clinical excellence and innovation.
  • Demonstrated experience in senior or executive management in a large and complex organisation with a proven ability to plan and implement successful organisational change.
  • Demonstrated medical leadership skills across a diverse range of issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best evidence-based practice in drug and alcohol related morbidity, mortality and relevant treatments and understanding and knowledge of research.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of change management principles and achievement of measurable outcomes.
