What you'll be doing
- The primary purpose of Deputy Director of Medical Services is to support the Director of Medical Services (DMS) to ensure effective and efficient support for clinical services within RNSH. The role also assists the DMS to ensure the quality, safety and efficiency of care, with a particular emphasis on Medical Services and clinical governance.
- The Deputy Director Medical Services has responsibility, in consultation with the DMS, for junior medical staff management at RNSH, and the achievement of efficient and effective resource allocation of junior medical staffing, in order to ensure the quality and safety of clinical services.
- The position has a key role in junior medical workforce planning and ensuring that effective strategies are in place to achieve future junior medical staffing needs at RNSH. This includes oversight of the Junior Medical Staff Unit.
- The position plays an active role, under the oversight of the DMS, in the management of medicolegal matters.
- The Deputy Director of Medical Services, along with the DMS, plays a major role in supporting clinical services including emergency response and incident management, complaints management and provision of advice and support to medical staff.
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
- Extensive management experience in an Australian or New Zealand health care setting, particularly in medical workforce management.
- Relevant postgraduate management qualification or working towards same, and demonstrated commitment to professional development.
- Demonstrated skills in performance management, complaint management and conflict resolution.
- Ability to work independently within a supervised complex multidisciplinary clinical environment using judgment and expertise and preparedness to participate in after-hours activities and on-call rosters.
- Demonstrated ability in quality, change, risk and strategic management to achieve targets within agreed time frames.
- Experience and/or demonstrated understanding of the management of medico-legal matters in a health care setting.
- Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation, teamwork and computer skills.
