The group
The Revenue Group is responsible for leading policy analysis and providing expert advice to Victorian Government on the following issues:
- Tax policy, including oversight of state taxes such as property, insurance, and payroll taxes, opportunities to improve the State's tax mix and performance of the tax system.
- Gambling policy, including advice on economic, tax and legislative issues in relation to lotteries, gaming machines, casino and wagering.
- Intergovernmental financial relations, particularly in relation to the distribution and design of Commonwealth funding to states and territories.
- Revenue forecasting, including of Victoria's GST revenue and state own source tax revenues.
About the role
Join us in a unique and fulfilling role as Director, Tax Policy and Projects. This is a part time opportunity working three days per week (ideally including Tuesday and Friday) with specific details to be confirmed with the preferred candidate. You will be responsible for leading a skilled team to provide analysis and advice to Government on all property-based state taxes such as land transfer duty, land tax, Fire Services Property Levy and Windfall gains tax.
As one of two executives performing the role of director in a job share arrangement, you will work closely with the incumbent to undertake these responsibilities, providing continuity of executive support to team members, senior executives, customers and stakeholders.
This role also includes interaction with a range of other groups in DTF working in related areas such as housing, planning and infrastructure as well as other key agencies, including the State Revenue Office.
About you
We are seeking applications from candidates with:
- Demonstrated capacity in the application of economic, financial or public policy analysis to complex issues, and in the provision of public policy advice at a strategic level;
- High level negotiation, influencing and communication skills (written and verbal) with a proven ability to engage strategically with senior stakeholders both inside and outside of government;
- Demonstrated leadership, people management and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated capacity to work in close partnership with peers and senior executives to discharge shared responsibilities, and preparedness to undertake this role as part of a job share arrangement with the incumbent; and
- Experience leading in a specialised and complex field, with an ability to quickly respond to emerging priorities and manage complex projects to delivery.
The successful candidate will demonstrate preparedness to make this successful for all parties, including working through respective working days and coordination arrangements.
Experience and qualifications
Appropriate tertiary qualifications in economics, commerce, finance, public policy or a related discipline.
