About the Role

As a Disability Support Worker, you will be providing person-centred active support to people living with disability in the Newcastle region. You will play a vital role in uplifting individuals facing mental health challenges and disability, empowering them to reach their full potential and enhance their overall well-being. We have opportunities across two of our support programs.

Our Supported Independent Living services help individuals live comfortably and independently at home, offering assistance with daily tasks such as personal care and meal preparation. These supports are most suitable to individuals who can work flexibly across a 24/7 roster. Ability to work sleepovers and active overnights is REQUIRED. We are currently looking for Casual and Permanent Part Time staff.

Our Lifestyle and Community Program allows you to work shifts between 6am to 10pm Monday to Sunday. These supports cater to the individual interests and abilities of our clients and often include social outings, recreational and leisure activities. The ability to work autonomously and without supervision is critical in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting clients through personal care (such as bathing, shaving, and toileting), manual handling, and providing mental health and behavioural support for those with significant behavioural challenges and high medical needs
  • Ability to follow person-centred active support plans and behaviour support plans respectful and assist participant to meet NDIS goals
  • Track and document the changing needs of clients through thorough record-keeping
  • Advocate for client choice and control in a safe and compliant manner, while encouraging positive social participation and community integration

Skills & Experience

  • An unrestricted New South Wales driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Committed to work flexible work hours across the week, including public holidays
  • Demonstrated ability to use basic technology and software on a mobile and desktop
  • A current First Aid Certificate, which includes the course HLTAID003 or HLTAID011
  • Experience with clients in mental health and behavioural settings

Successful candidates will be required to clear all state-based probity checks; including but not limited to a National Criminal History Record Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check.

Please note: To be considered for and appointed to a position at Life Without Barriers, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a minimum of two (2) doses or hold a valid medical exemption certificate, in accordance with Life Without Barriers Employee COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. You will be required to provide evidence of your vaccination status during the recruitment process.
